System Description

  1. GENERAL
    1. This system uses ultrasonic sensors to detect any obstacles at the corners and the rear of the vehicle. The system then informs the driver of the distance between the sensors and the obstacles as well as their positions by indicating them on the multi-display or multi-information display and by sounding a buzzer.
  2. FUNCTION OF COMPONENTS
    Component Function
Ultrasonic Sensor (6) Detects the distance between the vehicle and the obstacle
Clearance Warning Buzzer Sounds the buzzer to inform the driver according to the distance to the obstacle
Multi-information Display on Combination Meter Displays the location of the obstacle and the approximate distance between the vehicle and the obstacle
Displays a malfunction or freezing of the ultrasonic sensor to inform the driver
The multi-information display is switched to the multi-switch mode by the satellite switch operation. Then, intuitive parking assist sensor ON/OFF condition will be displayed
Clearance Sonar Indicator Light on Combination Meter Illuminates to inform the driver when the system operation conditions are met
Satellite Switch (Clearance Sonar Main Switch) Operating this switch enables, disables or cuts off the operation of intuitive parking assist sensor
Display and Navigation Module Display*1 Displays the location of the obstacle and the approximate distance between the vehicle and the obstacle
The sound volume and sounding distance of the buzzer and display requirement distance can be set on the setup screen for the intuitive parking assist sensor
Clearance Warning ECU Judges the approximate distance between the vehicle and the obstacle based on the signals from the ultrasonic sensors and sends it to the multi-information display and display and navigation module display
    Sounds the buzzer
Main Body ECU LH Transmits the reverse signal to the clearance warning ECU
Main Body ECU RH Transmits the parking brake switch signal to the clearance warning ECU
ECM Transmits the shift position signal to the clearance warning ECU

  3. OPERATION EXPLANATION
    1. The operating condition of each intuitive parking assist sensor differs according to the installation position as shown in the table bellow.
      Installation Position Operating Condition
Front Corner Sensor Engine switch on (IG)
Satellite switch (clearance sonar main switch) is ON
      Shift position is except P
Vehicle speed is approx. 6 mph (10 km/h) or less
Rear Corner Sensor Engine switch on (IG)
Satellite switch (clearance sonar main switch) is ON
      Shift position is R
Vehicle speed is approx. 6 mph (10 km/h) or less
Rear Center Sensor Engine switch on (IG)
Satellite switch (clearance sonar main switch) is ON
      Shift position is R
    2. The intuitive parking assist sensor then informs the driver of the distance between the sensors and the obstacles as well as their positions by displaying them on the multi-information display in the combination meter or display and navigation module display and by sounding buzzer.
