Inspection Procedure

CAUTION: The vehicle is equipped with an SRS (Supplemental Restraint System) which includes components such as airbags. Before servicing (including removal or installation of parts), be sure to read the PRECAUTION in the SRS (see PRECAUTION ).
  1. CHECK ILLUMINATION 
    1. Check if the illumination for the multi-display, steering pad switch, glove box light, cigarette lighter, or others (seat heater switch, front seat memory switch, etc) comes on when the light control switch is turned to the HEAD or TAIL position.

      Result 

      RESULT CHART

      Result Proceed to
      Illumination comes on for all components except steering pad switch A
      Illumination comes on for all components except radio receiver B
      Illumination comes on for all components except multi-display C
      No illumination comes on for radio receiver, multi-display, glove box light, front seat memory switch, cigarette lighter, etc D

    B:  Go to step  6

    C:  Go to step  7

    D: GO TO LIGHTING SYSTEM  (See PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE )

    A: Go to next step 

  2. INSPECT FUSE (P-D/C CUT) 
    1. Disconnect the P-D/C CUT fuses from passenger side junction block.
    2. Measure the resistance of the fuses.

      Standard resistance 

      TESTER CONNECTION SPECIFIED CONDITION CHART

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      P-D/C CUT fuse Always Below 1 Ω

    NG: REPLACE FUSE 

    OK: Go to next step 

  3. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (SPIRAL CABLE - COMBINATION METER AND BATTERY) 
    1. Disconnect the L24 cable connector.
    2. Disconnect the L10 meter connector.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard resistance 

      TESTER CONNECTION SPECIFIED CONDITION CHART

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      L24-12 (ILL-) - L10-16 (ILL-) Always Below 1 Ω
      L24-12 (ILL-) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
    4. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard voltage 

      TESTER CONNECTION SPECIFIED CONDITION CHART

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      L24-6 (+B) - Body ground Always 11 to 14 V

    NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK: Go to next step 

  4. CHECK STEERING PAD SWITCH ASSEMBLY (STEERING PAD SIDE)

    1. Disconnect the z8 switch connector.
    2. Connect the positive (+) lead to terminal 2 (ILL+-1) and the negative (-) lead to terminal 5 (ILL- -1) of the steering pad switch connector.
    3. Check if the illumination for the steering pad switch comes on.

      OK: Illumination for the steering pad switch comes on. 

    NG: REPLACE STEERING PAD SWITCH ASSEMBLY (STEERING PAD SIDE)  (See REMOVAL  )

    OK: Go to next step 

  5. INSPECT SPIRAL CABLE

    1. Disconnect the cable connectors.
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard resistance 

      TESTER CONNECTION SPECIFIED CONDITION CHART

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      L24-12 (ILL-) - z7-5 (ILL-) Spiral cable is turned 2.5 rotations counterclockwise Below 3 Ω
      Spiral cable is centered
      Spiral cable is turned 2.5 rotations clockwise
      L24-6 (+B) - z7-10 (+B) Spiral cable is turned 2.5 rotations counterclockwise Below 3 Ω
      Spiral cable is centered
      Spiral cable is turned 2 5 rotations clockwise
      NOTE: The spiral cable is an important part of the SRS airbag system. Incorrect removal or installation of the spiral cable may prevent the airbag from deploying. Be sure to read the PRECAUTION for the SRS (see PRECAUTION ).

    NG: REPLACE SPIRAL CABLE SUB-ASSEMBLY  (See REMOVAL )

    OK: REPLACE STEERING PAD SWITCH (STEERING WHEEL SIDE)  (See REMOVAL  )

  6. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (RADIO RECEIVER - COMBINATION METER AND BATTERY) 
    1. Disconnect the L51 receiver connector.
    2. Disconnect the L10 meter connector.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below

      Standard resistance 

      TESTER CONNECTION SPECIFIED CONDITION CHART

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      L51-12 (ILL-) - L10-16 (ILL-) Always Below 1 Ω
      L51-12 (ILL-) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
    4. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below

      Standard voltage 

      TESTER CONNECTION SPECIFIED CONDITION CHART

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      L51-2 (ILL+) - Body ground Light control system TAIL or HEAD 11 to 14 V

    NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK: REPLACE RADIO RECEIVER ASSEMBLY  (See REMOVAL  )

  7. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (DISPLAY AND NAVIGATION ASSEMBLY [MULTI-DISPLAY] - BATTERY AND COMBINATION METER) 
    1. Disconnect the L59 display connector
    2. Disconnect the L10 meter connector
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below

      Standard resistance 

      TESTER CONNECTION SPECIFIED CONDITION CHART

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      L59-5 (HILL) - L10-16 (ILL-) Always Below 1 Ω
      L59-5 (HILL) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
    4. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below

      Standard voltage 

      TESTER CONNECTION SPECIFIED CONDITION CHART

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      L59-12 (ILL+) - Body ground Light control switch TAIL or HEAD 11 to 14 V

    B: REPLACE MULTI-DISPLAY  (see REMOVAL )

    C: REPLACE MULTI-DISPLAY  (See REMOVAL  )

    D: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    A: REPLACE DISPLAY AND NAVIGATION ASSEMBLY  (see REMOVAL )
