Use the table below to help determine the cause of the problem. The numbers indicate likely causes of the problem in order. Check each part in order. If necessary, repair or replace the faulty parts.

7. Power steering gear (for 2WD) Refer to REMOVAL
8. Power steering gear (for 4WD) Refer to REMOVAL
Poor return 1. Tires (Improperly inflated) Refer to INSPECTION

3. Steering column (Binding) (for Power Tilt and Power Telescopic) Refer to REMOVAL

Excessive free play 1. Steering system joints (Worn) -
2. Suspension arm ball joints (Worn) Refer to INSPECTION
3. Intermediate shaft, Universal joint, Sliding yoke (Worn) -
4. Front wheel bearing (Worn) Refer to ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION
5. Power steering gear (for 2WD) Refer to REMOVAL
6. Power steering gear (for 4WD) Refer to REMOVAL
Abnormal noise 1. Steering system joints (Worn) -
2. Power steering gear (for 2WD) Refer to REMOVAL
3. Power steering gear (for 4WD) Refer to REMOVAL
