    • Before entering test mode, check and repair any malfunctions indicated by the present DTCs of the VGRS system.
    • By switching from normal mode to test mode, the steering angle sensor can be read.
    • When entering test mode, the steering control ECU sets all the test mode DTCs first.
    • When the mode is switched from test mode to normal mode, all the test mode DTCs will be erased.
    1. Check the test mode DTCs (using the Techstream).
      1. Turn the power switch OFF.
      2. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
      3. Turn the power switch ON (IG).
      4. Turn the Techstream on.
      5. Read the test mode DTCs by following the prompts on the Techstream screen.

        HINT:

Refer to the Techstream's operator's manual for further details.

    2. Clear the test mode DTCs (using the Techstream).
      1. Turn the power switch OFF.
      2. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
      3. Turn the power switch ON (IG).
      4. Turn the Techstream on.
      5. Switch the system from test mode to normal mode by following the directions on the Techstream screen.

        HINT:

Refer to the Techstream's operator's manual for further details.

    3. Check the test mode DTCs (using SST check wire).
      1. Turn the power switch OFF.
      2. Using SST, connect terminals 12 (TS) and 4 (CG) of the DLC3.
        • SST: 09843-18040

      3. Turn the power switch ON (IG).
      4. Read 2-digit test mode DTCs from the multi-information display.
        NOTE:

Perform these procedures with the vehicle stopped.

    4. Clear the test mode DTCs (using SST check wire).
      1. Turn the power switch OFF.
      2. Disconnect the SST from the DLC3.
        • SST: 09843-18040
      3. Turn the power switch ON (IG).

        HINT:

If the power switch is turned ON (IG) with terminals 12 (TS) and 4 (CG) connected, the system remains in test mode.

  2. TEST MODE DTC
    1. If a trouble code is displayed during the DTC check, check the circuit indicated by the DTC. For details of each code, proceed to DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART .
DTC No. Detection Item Trouble Area Proceed to
C15C4/68 A steering signal indicating a tire angle of 36° or more (to the left or right) is input after transfer to test mode*
      • Wire harness
      • Steering angle sensor
      • Steering control ECU
Refer to DTC C1595/55: Lost Communication with Steering Angle Sensor Module; DTC C15C4/68: Steering Angle Signal (Test Mode DTC)
C15C5/69 A steering signal indicating a motor rotation angle of 36° or more (to the left or right) is input after transfer to test mode*
      • Wire harness
      • Steering actuator
      • Steering control ECU
Refer to DTC C15A3/63: Actuator Malfunction; DTC C15C5/69: Motor Revolution Angle Signal (Test Mode DTC)

      HINT:

*: A tire angle of 36° and a motor rotation angle of 36° correspond to the steering wheel angle respectively. The amount of change in tire angle and motor rotation angle is from when the mode is changed to test mode.
