Distance Control Switch Circuit: Procedure

  1. INSPECT DISTANCE CONTROL ECU 
    1. Turn the engine switch on (IG).

    2. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard voltage

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      A8-16 (MODE) - Body ground Distance control switch ON (pushed) 0 to 2 V
      Distance control switch OFF (not pushed) 10 to 14 V

    OK → PROCEED TO NEXT SUSPECTED AREA SHOWN IN PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE 

    NG: Go to next step 

  2. INSPECT DISTANCE CONTROL ECU CIRCUIT 
    1. Disconnect the A8 connector.

    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard resistance

      Tester connection Condition Specified condition
      A8-16 (MODE) - Body ground Distance control switch ON (pushed) Below 1 Ω
      Distance control switch OFF (not pushed) 10 kΩ or higher

    OK → See step   7 

    NG: Go to next step 

  3. INSPECT STEERING PAD SWITCH ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the steering pad . Refer to REMOVAL .

    2. Disconnect the d1 connector from the spiral cable.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      d1-4 (DIST) - d1-6 (ECC) Distance control switch ON (pushed) Below 2.5 Ω
      d1-4 (DIST) - d1-6 (ECC) Distance control switch OFF (not pushed) 10 kΩ or higher

    NG → See step   5 

    OK: Go to next step 

  4. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (ECM - SPIRAL CABLE) 
    NOTE:

    The spiral cable is an important part of the SRS airbag system. Incorrect removal or installation of the spiral cable may cause airbag deployment. Be sure to read the page shown in the brackets.

    HINT: 

    1. Remove the spiral cable.

    2. Disconnect the A8 connector from the distance control ECU.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      E30-11 (DIST) - A8-16 (MODE) Always Below 1 Ω
      A8-16 (MODE) - Body ground Distance control switch off 10 kΩ or higher
      Distance control switch on Below 1 Ω

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK → See step   6 

  5. REPLACE STEERING PAD SWITCH. Refer to  REMOVAL 
  6. REPLACE SPIRAL CABLE. Refer to  REMOVAL 
  7. REPLACE DISTANCE CONTROL ECU. Refer to  REMOVAL
