Inspection Procedure
NOTE:
When using the Techstream with the engine switch off to troubleshoot:
Connect the Techstream to the vehicle, and turn a courtesy switch on and off at 1.5 second intervals until communication between the Techstream and vehicle begins.

- Disconnect the E90 ECU connector.
- Disconnect the R11 sensor connector.
- Disconnect the R7 and R12 junction block connectors.
- Measure the resistance according to the value (s) in the table below.
Standard Resistance
TESTER CONNECTION SPECIFIED CONDITION CHARTTester Connection Condition Specified Condition R11-3 (MPX) - E90-7 (MPX1) Always Below 1 Ω R11-4 (SIG) - R7-8 (IG2) Always Below 1 Ω R11-1 (ES) - R12-19 (GND2) Always Below 1 Ω R11-3 (MPX) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher R11-4 (SIG) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher R11-1 (ES) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher - Reconnect the R7 and R12 junction block connectors.
- Measure the voltage according to the value (s) in the table below.
Standard Voltage
TESTER CONNECTION SPECIFIED CONDITION CHARTTester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition R11-4 (SIG) - Body ground Engine switch on (IG) 11 to 14 V NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR
OK: Go to next Step
- REPLACE RAIN SENSOR
- Temporarily replace the rain sensor with a new one (See REMOVAL ).
- Check the rain sensor function is normal.
OK: Rain sensor function is normal
NG: REPLACE WINDSHIELD WIPER ECU (See REMOVAL )
OK: END (RAIN SENSOR IS DEFECTIVE)
