Oil Pump: Removal

HINT:

When viewed from the rear of the engine assembly, Bank 1 is on the left side and Bank 2 is on the right side.

  1. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL 
    CAUTION: Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to prevent airbag and seat belt pretensioner activation.
    NOTE:
    • When disconnecting the cable, some systems need to be initialized after the cable is reconnected (see INITIALIZATION ).
    • After the power switch is turned OFF, the HDD navigation system requires approximately 6 minutes to record various types of memory and settings. As a result, after turning the power switch OFF, wait 6 minutes or more before disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal.
  2. REMOVE SERVICE PLUG GRIP  (See REMOVAL )
  3. REMOVE ENGINE ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the engine (see REMOVAL ).
  4. REMOVE V-RIBBED BELT  (See REMOVAL )
  5. REMOVE WITH MOTOR COMPRESSOR ASSEMBLY  (See REMOVAL )
  6. REMOVE ENGINE COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY LH  (See REMOVAL )
  7. REMOVE NO. 6 COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY  (See REMOVAL )
  8. REMOVE ENGINE COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY RH  (See REMOVAL )
  9. REMOVE NO. 5 COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY  (See REMOVAL )
  10. REMOVE ENGINE WIRE  (See REMOVAL )
  11. REMOVE INJECTOR DRIVER  (See REMOVAL )
  12. REMOVE NO. 1 ENGINE COVER  (See REMOVAL )
  13. REMOVE PURGE VSV  (See REMOVAL )
  14. REMOVE HEATER WATER PUMP ASSEMBLY  (See REMOVAL )
  15. REMOVE WATER BY-PASS PIPE SUB-ASSEMBLY  (See REMOVAL )
  16. REMOVE INTAKE MANIFOLD ASSEMBLY  (See REMOVAL )
  17. REMOVE FUEL PRESSURE PULSATION DAMPER ASSEMBLY  (See REMOVAL )
  18. REMOVE NO. 3 FUEL PIPE SUB-ASSEMBLY  (See REMOVAL )
  19. REMOVE NO. 2 FUEL PIPE SUB-ASSEMBLY  (See REMOVAL )
  20. REMOVE FUEL PUMP ASSEMBLY (for Bank 1)  (See REMOVAL )
  21. REMOVE FUEL PUMP ASSEMBLY (for Bank 2)  (See REMOVAL )
  22. REMOVE WATER INLET HOUSING 
    1. Using needle-nose pliers, grip the claws of the clip and slide the clip to disconnect the water inlet hose.
    2. Remove the 3 bolts, water inlet housing and gasket.

  23. REMOVE WATER PUMP PULLEY  (See REMOVAL )
  24. REMOVE V-RIBBED BELT TENSIONER ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the bolt and belt tensioner

  25. REMOVE FRONT WATER BY-PASS JOINT  (See DISASSEMBLY )
  26. REMOVE CAMSHAFT TIMING CONTROL MOTOR ASSEMBLY LH 
    1. Remove the 3 bolts and camshaft timing control motor.

    3. Remove the O-ring from the timing chain cover.
  27. REMOVE CAMSHAFT TIMING CONTROL MOTOR ASSEMBLY RH 
    1. Remove the 3 bolts and camshaft timing control motor.

    3. Remove the O-ring from the timing chain cover.
  28. REMOVE OIL FILTER ELEMENT  (See REPLACEMENT  )
  29. REMOVE OIL FILTER BRACKET 
    1. Remove the 3 bolts, filter bracket and 2 gaskets.

  30. REMOVE CRANKSHAFT PULLEY 
    1. Using SST, loosen the crankshaft pulley set bolt until 2 or 3 threads are engaged.

      SST 09213-54015 (90119-08216), 09330-00021

    2. Using the pulley set bolt and SST, remove the crankshaft pulley.

      SST 09950-50013 (09951-05010, 09952-05010, 09953-05010, 09954-05031)

  31. REMOVE CRANKSHAFT TIMING GEAR KEY  (See REPLACEMENT )
  32. REMOVE IGNITION COIL ASSEMBLY  (See DISASSEMBLY )
  33. REMOVE CYLINDER HEAD COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY LH 
    1. Remove the fuel pump spacer.
    2. Remove the 15 bolts in the order shown in the illustration. Then remove the 2 seal washers, cylinder head cover and gasket.

      HINT:

      Make sure the removed parts are returned to the same places they were removed from

    3. Remove the 4 gaskets and 2 O-rings from the camshaft bearing caps (No. 2, No. 3 and No. 7).

  34. REMOVE CYLINDER HEAD COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY RH 
    1. Remove the fuel pump spacer.
    2. Remove the 15 bolts in the order shown in the illustration. Then remove the 2 seal washers, cylinder head cover and gasket.

      HINT:

      Make sure the removed parts are returned to the same places they were removed from.

    3. Remove the 4 gaskets and 2 O-rings from the camshaft bearing caps (No. 1, No 3 and No. 6).

  35. REMOVE TIMING CHAIN COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the 2 plugs and 2 gaskets

    2. Remove the 30 bolts and nut shown in the illustration

    3. Remove the timing chain cover by prying between the timing chain cover and cylinder head or cylinder block with a screwdriver as shown in the illustration.
      NOTE: Be careful not to damage the contact surfaces of the cylinder head, cylinder block and chain cover.

      HINT:

      Tape the screwdriver tip before use.

    4. Remove the oil pump gasket from the cylinder block.

    5. Remove the O-ring from the oil pan

  36. REMOVE WATER INLET PIPE 
    1. Remove the water inlet pipe
    2. Remove the 2 O-rings from the water inlet pipe
