Inspection Procedure

  1. CHECK CAN COMMUNICATION SYSTEM 
    1. Check for the DTC (see DTC CHECK/CLEAR  ).

      Result: 

      RESULT REFERENCE TABLE

      Result Proceed to
      CAN communication system DTC is not output A
      CAN communication system DTC is output B

    B: Go to  CAN COMMUNICATION SYSTEM 

    A: Go to next step 

  2. PERFORM ACTIVE TEST BY TECHSTREAM (TACHOMETER) 
    1. Operate the Techstream according to the display and select "Active Test".

      OK: Needle indication is normal. 

      Combination Meter: 

      ACTIVE TEST REFERENCE

      Tester Display Test Part Control Range
      Tacho Meter Tachometer 0, 1000, 2000, 3000, 4000, 5000, 6000, 7000

      HINT:

      Confirm that the vehicle is stopped and engine is idling.

    NG: REPLACE NO. 1 METER ECU  (See DISASSEMBLY  )

    OK: Go to next step 

  3. READ VALUE OF TECHSTREAM (ENGINE SPEED) 
    1. Operate the Techstream according to the display and select "Data List".

      OK: Engine speed displayed on Techstream is almost the same as actual engine speed. 

      Combination Meter: 

      MEASUREMENT ITEM/RANGE TABLE

      Tester Display Measurement Item/Range Normal Condition Diagnostic Note
      Tacho Meter Engine speed / Min.: 0, Max.: 12750 Idling: 700 to 800 Unit: rpm

    NG: Go to step   4 

    OK: REPLACE NO. 1 METER ECU  (See DISASSEMBLY  )

  4. READ VALUE OF TECHSTREAM (ENGINE SPEED) 
    1. Operate the Techstream according to the display and select "Data List".

      OK: Engine speed displayed on the Techstream is almost the same as the actual engine speed. 

      Engine: 

      MEASUREMENT ITEM/RANGE TABLE

      Tester Display Measurement Item/Range Normal Condition Diagnostic Note
      Engine Speed Engine speed / Min.: 0, Max.: 16383.75 Idling: 700 to 800 Unit: rpm

    NG: Go to  SFI SYSTEM 

    OK: Go to next step 

  5. REPLACE NO. 1 METER ECU 
    1. Temporarily replace the combination meter with a new one (See DISASSEMBLY  ).
  6. CHECK NO. 1 METER ECU 
    1. Check the operation of the tachometer returns to normal (see OPERATION CHECK  ).

      OK: Operation of tachometer returns to normal. 

    NG: REPLACE ECM  (See REMOVAL )

    OK: END (COMBINATION METER IS DEFECTIVE)
