Parking Brake Assembly: Reassembly

HINT:

CAUTION: While the battery is connected, even if the engine switch is off, the brake control system activates when the brake pedal is depressed with the door courtesy switch on. Therefore during servicing of the brake system components, do not operate the brake pedal and open/close the doors while the battery is connected.
  1. INSTALL PARKING BRAKE ANCHOR BLOCK SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    1. Install the parking brake anchor block and cable support bracket with the 2 nuts.

      Torque: 76 N*m (775 kgf*cm, 56 ft.*lbf) 

    2. Install the rear axle hub and bearing (see INSTALLATION ).

  2. APPLY HIGH TEMPERATURE GREASE 
    1. Apply a thin layer of high temperature grease to the area where the parking brake plate contacts the parking brake shoe (see REASSEMBLY  ).
  3. INSTALL NO. 2 PARKING BRAKE SHOE ASSEMBLY 
    1. Using SST, install the No. 2 parking brake shoe with the No. 2 shoe hold down spring cup, No. 2 compression spring and No. 1 shoe hold down spring pin.

    SST 09718-00010 

    HINT:

    Use the service hole to retain the No. 1 shoe hold down spring pin with your finger.

  4. INSTALL NO. 1 PARKING BRAKE SHOE ASSEMBLY 
    1. Using SST, install the No. 1 parking brake shoe with the No. 1 shoe hold down spring cup, No. 1 compression spring and No. 1 shoe hold down spring pin.

    SST 09718-00010 

    HINT:

    Use the service hole to retain the No. 1 shoe hold down spring pin with your finger.

  5. INSTALL PARKING BRAKE SHOE ADJUSTING SCREW SET 
    1. Apply high temperature grease to the thread and all joining areas of the parking brake shoe adjusting screw set.

    2. Install the parking brake shoe adjusting screw set.

  6. INSTALL NO. 2 PARKING BRAKE SHOE RETURN TENSION SPRING 
    1. Install the No. 2 parking brake shoe return spring.

  7. INSTALL PARKING BRAKE SHOE LEVER 
    1. Apply a thin layer of high temperature grease to the area where the parking brake shoe lever contacts the parking brake anchor block.
    2. Install the parking brake shoe lever to the parking brake cable.
      NOTE: Take care to install the correct parking brake shoe lever because the direction of the pin is different between the left and right.

    3. Check that the parking brake inner cable and parking brake shoe lever are securely connected by trying to pull them apart.

    4. Install the parking brake cable to the support bracket with the 2 nuts.

      Torque: 8.0 N*m (82 kgf*cm, 71 in.*lbf)

    5. With the vehicle on the ground, check that the gap between the parking brake cable and drive shaft, and the gap between the parking brake cable and shaft boot are 10 mm (0.394 in.) or more.

    HINT:

    Make sure that the cable is not twisted.

  8. INSTALL NO. 1 PARKING BRAKE SHOE RETURN TENSION SPRING 
    1. Install the No. 1 parking brake shoe return spring.

  9. CHECK PARKING BRAKE INSTALLATION 
    1. Make sure that all the parts are installed properly. If necessary, reinstall the parts properly.

  10. INSTALL REAR DISC 
    1. Align the matchmarks on the rear disc and rear axle hub.
  11. CONNECT REAR DISC BRAKE CALIPER ASSEMBLY 
    1. Connect the rear disc brake caliper with 2 new bolts.

    Torque: 86 N*m (877 kgf*cm, 63 ft.*lbf) 

    NOTE:
    • Do not twist the brake hose.
    • Make sure that the bolts are free from damage and foreign matter.
    • Do not overtighten the bolts.
  12. ADJUST PARKING BRAKE SHOE CLEARANCE 
    1. Adjust parking brake shoe clearance (see ADJUSTMENT  ).
  13. INSTALL REAR WHEEL  (See INSTALLATION )
  14. PERFORM PARKING BRAKE SHOE BEDDING 
    1. Perform parking brake shoe bedding (see INITIALIZATION  ).
