Parking Brake Assembly: Disassembly

HINT:

CAUTION: While the battery is connected, even if the engine switch is off, the brake control system activates when the brake pedal is depressed with the door courtesy switch on. Therefore during servicing of the brake system components, do not operate the brake pedal and open/close the doors while the battery is connected.
  1. REMOVE REAR WHEEL 
  2. DISCONNECT REAR DISC BRAKE CALIPER ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the 2 bolts and disconnect the rear disc brake caliper.

    NOTE: Hang the caliper with wire or equivalent.
  3. REMOVE REAR DISC 
    1. Put matchmarks on the rear disc and rear axle hub.
    2. Remove the rear disc.

    HINT:

    If the rear disc is difficult to remove, turn the adjustment screw in the contraction direction as shown in the illustration to make the disc easier to remove.

  4. REMOVE NO. 2 PARKING BRAKE SHOE RETURN TENSION SPRING 
    1. Using SST, remove the shoe return spring.

  5. REMOVE NO. 1 PARKING BRAKE SHOE RETURN TENSION SPRING 
    1. Using SST, remove the shoe return spring.

  6. REMOVE PARKING BRAKE SHOE ADJUSTING SCREW SET 
    1. Slide the parking brake shoe, and remove the parking brake shoe adjusting screw set.

  7. REMOVE NO. 2 PARKING BRAKE SHOE ASSEMBLY 
    1. Using SST, remove the No. 2 shoe hold down spring cup, No. 2 compression spring and No. 1 shoe hold down spring pin.

      SST 09718-00010 

      HINT:

      Use the service hole to retain the No. 1 shoe hold down spring pin with your finger.

    2. Remove the No. 2 parking brake shoe.

  8. REMOVE NO. 1 PARKING BRAKE SHOE ASSEMBLY 
    1. Using SST, remove the No. 1 shoe hold down spring cup, No. 1 compression spring and No. 1 shoe hold down spring pin.

      SST 09718-00010 

      HINT:

      Use the service hole to retain the No. 1 shoe hold down spring pin with your finger.

    2. Remove the No. 1 parking brake shoe.

  9. REMOVE PARKING BRAKE SHOE LEVER 
    1. Remove the parking brake shoe lever.

  10. DISCONNECT PARKING BRAKE CABLE 
    1. Remove the 2 nuts and disconnect the parking brake cable.

  11. REMOVE PARKING BRAKE ANCHOR BLOCK SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the rear axle hub and bearing (see REMOVAL ).
    2. Remove the 2 nuts, cable support bracket and parking brake anchor block.
