Section 25 (Starting): Starter: Disassembly

  1. REMOVE STARTER MAGNETIC SWITCH ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the nut, and disconnect the lead wire from the magnetic switch assembly.

    2. Remove the 2 nuts and starter magnetic switch assembly

  2. REMOVE STARTER DRIVE HOUSING ASSEMBLY 
    1. Using a T30 "TORX" socket wrench, remove the 2 bolts
    2. Pull out the starter yoke assembly and the starter commutator end frame assembly together with the stater armature assembly.

  3. REMOVE STARTER COMMUTATOR END FRAME ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the starter pinion drive lever

    2. Remove the 2 screws and starter commutator end frame assembly
    NOTE: While holding down the lead wire, remove the starter commutator end frame assembly.

  4. REMOVE STARTER ARMATURE ASSEMBLY 
    1. Using a screwdriver, hold the spring back and disconnect the brush from the starter brush holder assembly.
    2. Disconnect the 4 brushes, and remove the starter brush holder assembly.

    3. Remove the starter armature assembly from the starter center bearing clutch sub-assembly.

  5. REMOVE STARTER YOKE ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the starter yoke assembly from the starter center bearing clutch sub-assembly
  6. REMOVE STARTER ARMATURE PLATE 
    1. Remove the starter armature plate from the starter center bearing clutch sub-assembly.

  7. REMOVE PLANETARY GEAR 
    1. Remove the 3 planetary gears.
