Water Pump: Installation

  1. INSTALL WATER PUMP ASSEMBLY 
    1. Install a new O-ring to the water by-pass hose.

    2. Install a new gasket and the water pump with the 5 bolts, 2 stud bolts and nut.

      Torque: 21 N*m (214 kgf*cm, 15 ft.*lbf) for bolt 18 N*m (184 kgf*cm, 13 ft.*lbf) for nut and stud bolt

  2. INSTALL WATER INLET HOUSING 
    1. Install a new O-ring.
    2. Apply soapy water to the O-ring.
    3. Apply seal packing to the groove of the water inlet housing as shown in the illustration.

      Seal packing: 

      Toyota Genuine seal packing 1282B, Three 

      Bond 1282B or Equivalent 

      Standard seal diameter: 

      2 to 3 mm (0.08 to 0.12 in.) 

      NOTE:
      • After applying seal packing, install the part within 5 minutes.
      • Be sure to keep the O-ring away from engine oil. The O-ring must be replaced if it contacts engine oil.
    4. Install the water inlet housing with the 2 bolts.

      Bolt length 

      BOLT LENGTH SPECIFICATION

      Item Specified Condition
      Bolt A 75 mm (2.95 in.)
      Bolt B 25 mm (0.98 In.)

      Torque: 18 N*m (194 kgf*cm, 24 ft.*lbf) 

    5. Connect the water by-pass hose.
  3. INSTALL TIMING BELT 
    1. Install the timing belt (see INSTALLATION ).
  4. INSTALL RADIATOR ASSEMBLY (See  INSTALLATION   ) 
  5. CONNECT NO. 1 OIL COOLER OUTLET TUBE (See  INSTALLATION   ) 
  6. CONNECT NO. 1 OIL COOLER INLET TUBE (See  INSTALLATION   ) 
  7. CONNECT NO. 2 RADIATOR HOSE (See  INSTALLATION   ) 
  8. CONNECT NO. 1 RADIATOR HOSE (See  INSTALLATION   ) 
  9. ADD ENGINE COOLANT (See  COOLANT   ) 
  10. CHECK FOR ENGINE COOLANT LEAKS (See  COOLING SYSTEM   ) 
  11. INSTALL AIR CLEANER ASSEMBLY (See  INSTALLATION  ) 
  12. INSTALL INTAKE AIR CONNECTOR PIPE (See  INSTALLATION  ) 
  13. INSTALL NO. 1 AIR CLEANER INLET 
    1. Install the air cleaner inlet with the bolt.

      Torque: 5.0 N*m (51 kgf*cm, 44 in.*lbf) 

  14. INSTALL V-BANK COVER 
    1. Install the cover with the 2 nuts.

      Torque: 5.0 N*m (51 kgf*cm, 44 in.*lbf) 

  15. INSTALL ENGINE UNDER COVER 
  16. CONNECT CABLE TO NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL 
  17. PERFORM INITIALIZATION 
    1. Perform initialization (see INITIALIZATION ).
      NOTE: Certain systems need to be initialized after disconnecting and reconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal.
