Rear Axle Hub: Removal

HINT:

  1. REMOVE REAR WHEEL 
  2. LOOSEN REAR AXLE SHAFT NUT LH 
    1. Remove the cotter pin and rear axle lock nut plate.
    2. Loosen the nut.
  3. DISCONNECT REAR DISC BRAKE CYLINDER ASSEMBLY LH 
    1. Remove the 2 bolts and disconnect the brake cylinder from the axle carrier.
    2. Support the brake cylinder securely.
  4. REMOVE REAR DISC 
  5. DISCONNECT SPEED SENSOR REAR LH (See  INSTALLATION  ) 
  6. REMOVE PARKING BRAKE ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the parking brake assembly (see PARKING BRAKE ASSEMBLY ).

  7. DISCONNECT NO. 3 PARKING BRAKE CABLE ASSEMBLY 
    1. Disconnect the parking brake cable (see REMOVAL ).
  8. DISCONNECT TOE CONTROL LINK SUB-ASSEMBLY LH 
    1. Remove the nut.
    2. Using SST, disconnect the toe control link from the axle carrier.

      SST 09610-20012 

      NOTE: Be careful not to damage the dust cover.

  9. REMOVE REAR NO. 1 SUSPENSION ARM ASSEMBLY LH 
    1. Remove the bolt and nut, and disconnect the suspension arm.

  10. DISCONNECT REAR UPPER CONTROL ARM ASSEMBLY LH 
    1. Remove the nut.
    2. Using SST, disconnect the upper control arm from the axle carrier.

      SST 09628-00011 

      NOTE: Be careful not to damage the dust cover.
    3. Connect the rear axle carrier to the upper control arm, and loosely install the nut.
    4. Using a plastic-faced hammer, tap the rear drive shaft assembly's tip to detach the rear drive shaft assembly.
    5. Remove the nut and disconnect the upper control arm.

  11. DISCONNECT REAR NO. 2 SUSPENSION ARM ASSEMBLY LH 
    1. Place matchmarks on the adjusting cam and rear suspension arm.
    2. Remove the nut, No. 2 camber adjusting cam and No. 1 camber adjusting cam. Then disconnect the rear suspension arm and remove the axle carrier assembly.
  12. REMOVE REAR NO. 2 WHEEL BEARING DUST DEFLECTOR LH 
    1. Using a screwdriver, pry out the dust deflector.

  13. REMOVE REAR AXLE SHAFT LH 
    1. Remove the 2 bolts and nuts.

    2. Using SST, remove the axle shaft from the axle carrier.

      SST 09950-40011(09951-04020,09952-04010, 09953-04030, 09954-04010, 09955-04051, 09957-04010, 09958-04011), 09950-60010 (09951-00480)

    3. Using SST, remove the bearing inner race from the axle shaft.

      SST 09950-00020, 09950-60010 (09951 -00480), 09950-40011 (09951-04020, 09952-04010, 09953-04030, 09954-04020, 09955-04041) 

      NOTE: Be careful not to damage the axle shaft.

  14. REMOVE REAR AXLE SHAFT SNAP RING LH 
    1. Using snap ring pliers, remove the snap ring.

  15. REMOVE REAR AXLE SHAFT BEARING LH 
    1. Using SST and a press, press out the shaft bearing from the axle carrier.

      SST 09950-60010 (09951 -00650), 09950-70010 (09951-07100)
