Steering Column Assembly: Installation

  1. INSTALL STEERING COLUMN ASSEMBLY 
    1. Install the steering column assembly with the 4 nuts.

      Torque: 26 N*m (265 kgf*cm, 19 ft.*lbf)

    2. Connect each of the connectors to the steering column assembly.
    3. Connect the wire harness clamps to the steering column assembly.
      CAUTION: Use a shop rag or piece of cloth to wipe any dirt off the installation plane and column body side.
      NOTE: Be careful not to scratch or soil the installation plane of the steering column.
  2. INSTALL NO.2 STEERING INTERMEDIATE SHAFT SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    1. Align the matchmarks on the power steering gear and No. 2 steering intermediate shaft.
    2. Install the No. 2 steering intermediate shaft onto the steering gear box with bolt C.

      Torque: 36 N*m (367 kgf*cm, 27 ft.*lbf) for bolt C

  3. INSTALL STEERING SLIDING YOKE 
    1. Align the matchmarks on the steering column and steering sliding yoke.
    2. Install the steering sliding yoke onto the steering column assembly and slide it upward.
    3. Align the matchmarks on the No. 2 intermediate shaft sub-assembly and steering sliding yoke.
    4. Install the sliding yoke onto the No. 2 intermediate shaft sub-assembly with bolts A and B.

      Torque: 36 N*m (367 kgf*cm, 27 ft.*lbf) for bolt A, B 

  4. INSTALL NO. 1 ENGINE UNDER COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    1. Install the No. 1 engine under cover sub-assembly with the 4 bolts.

      Torque: 29 N*m (296 kgf*cm, 21 ft.*lbf) 

  5. INSTALL FRONT WHEEL LH 
  6. INSTALL STEERING COLUMN HOLE COVER 
    1. Install the steering column hole cover with the 4 clips.
      NOTE: Be careful not to damage the dust seal of the steering column hole cover.

  7. INSTALL NO. 1 AIR DUCT  (See INSTALLATION )
  8. INSTALL LOWER INSTRUMENT PANEL LH  (See INSTALLATION )
  9. INSTALL LOWER INSTRUMENT PANEL FINISH PANEL SUB-ASSEMBLY LH  (See INSTALLATION )
  10. INSTALL FRONT DOOR OPENING TRIM WEATHERSTRIP LH  (See INSTALLATION )
  11. INSTALL COWL SIDE TRIM BOARD LH  (See INSTALLATION )
  12. INSTALL FRONT DOOR SCUFF PLATE LH  (See INSTALLATION )
  13. INSTALL FRONT FLOOR FOOTREST  (See INSTALLATION )
  14. INSTALL NO.1 INSTRUMENT PANEL REGISTER ASSEMBLY  (See INSTALLATION )
  15. INSTALL COMBINATION SWITCH ASSEMBLY 
    1. Install the 3 screws.
    2. Connect all connectors to the combination switch assembly.

  16. INSTALL UPPER STEERING COLUMN COVER 
    1. Engage the claw and install the upper steering column cover.

  17. INSTALL LOWER STEERING COLUMN COVER 
    1. Engage the 2 claws.
    2. Install the lower steering column cover with the 3 screws.

  18. INSTALL STEERING WHEEL ASSEMBLY 
    1. Align the matchmarks on the steering wheel assembly and steering main shaft assembly.
    2. Install the steering wheel assembly set nut.

      Torque: 50 N*m (510 kgf*cm, 37 ft.*lbf) 

  19. INSTALL STEERING PAD  (See INSTALLATION )
  20. INSTALL LOWER NO.3 STEERING WHEEL COVER  (See INSTALLATION )
  21. INSTALL LOWER NO.2 STEERING WHEEL COVER  (See INSTALLATION )
  22. PLACE FRONT WHEELS FACING STRAIGHT AHEAD 
  23. CONNECT CABLE TO NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL 

    Torque: 3.9 N*m (40 kgf*cm, 35 in.*lbf) 

  24. INSPECT SRS WARNING LIGHT
