Outer Rear View Mirror: Inspection

  1. INSPECT OUTER REAR VIEW MIRROR ASSEMBLY LH (w/o Seat Position Memory System) 
    1. Inspect outer mirror operation.
      1. Disconnect the mirror connector.
      2. Apply battery voltage and check operation of the mirror face.

      Standard 

      MEASUREMENT CONDITION AND MIRROR OPERATION REFERENCE

      Measurement Condition Mirror Operation
      Battery positive (+) → 7 (MV)
      Battery positive (-) → 6 (M+)
      Turns upward (A)
      Battery positive (+) → 6 (M+)
      Battery positive (-) → 7 (MV)
      Turns downward (B)
      Battery positive (+) → 8 (M+)
      Battery positive (-) → 7 (MH)
      Turns left (C)
      Battery positive (+) → 7 (MH)
      Battery positive (-) → 8 (M+)
      Turns right (D)

    2. Inspect outer mirror heater operation.
      1. Apply battery voltage and check operation of the mirror heater.

        HINT:

        While using the battery during inspection, do not bring the positive and negative tester probes too close to each other as a short circuit may occur.

        If the result is not as specified, replace the mirror assembly

      OK 

      MEASUREMENT CONDITION AND SPECIFIED CONDITION

      Measurement Condition Specified Condition
      Battery positive (+) → Terminal 5 (H+)
      Battery negative (-) → Terminal 12 (H-)
      Mirror becomes warm
  2. REMOVE OUTER REAR VIEW MIRROR ASSEMBLY LH (w/ Seat Position Memory System) 
    1. Inspect outer mirror operation.
      1. Disconnect the mirror connector.
      2. Apply battery voltage and check operation of the mirror face.

      Standard 

      MEASUREMENT CONDITION AND MIRROR OPERATION REFERENCE

      Battery positive (+) → 7 (MV)
      Battery positive (-) → 6 (M+)
      Turns upward (A)
      Battery positive (+) → 6 (M+)
      Battery positive (-) → 7 (MV)

      Battery positive (+) → 8 (M+)
      Battery positive (-) → 7 (MH)
      Turns left (C)
      Battery positive (+) → 7 (MH)
      Battery positive (-) → 8 (M+)

    2. Inspect outer mirror heater operation.
      1. Apply battery voltage and check operation of the mirror heater.

      HINT:

      While using the battery during inspection, do not bring the positive and negative tester probes too close to each other as a short circuit may occur.

      If the result is not as specified, replace the mirror assembly

      OK 

      MEASUREMENT CONDITION AND SPECIFIED CONDITION

      Measurement Condition Specified Condition
      Battery positive (+) → Terminal 5 (H+)
      Battery negative (-) → Terminal 12 (H-)
      Mirror becomes warm
    3. Inspect operation of the mirror position sensor.
      1. Connect the positive (+) lead from the ohmmeter to terminal 9 and the negative (-) lead to terminal 15, and measure the resistance.

        Standard resistance: 

        700 to 1,300Ω 

      2. Check that the resistance between terminals 9 and 10 changes when slowly turning the mirror face right and left.
      3. Check that the resistance between terminals 9 and 16 changes when slowly turning the mirror face right and left.
  3. INSPECT OUTER REAR VIEW MIRROR ASSEMBLY RH (w/o Seat Position Memory System) 
    1. Inspect outer mirror operation.
      1. Disconnect the H8 mirror connector.
      2. Apply battery voltage and check operation of the mirror face.

      Standard 

      MEASUREMENT CONDITION AND MIRROR OPERATION REFERENCE

      Battery positive (+) → 7 (MV)
      Battery positive (-) → 6 (M+)
      Turns upward (A)
      Battery positive (+) → 6 (M+)

      Battery positive (-) → 7 (MH)
      Turns left (C)
      Battery positive (+) → 7 (MH)

    2. Inspect outer mirror heater operation.
      1. Apply battery voltage arid check operation of the mirror heater.

        HINT:

        While using the battery during inspection, do not bring the positive and negative tester probes too close to each other as a short circuit may occur.

        OK 

      MEASUREMENT CONDITION AND SPECIFIED CONDITION

      Battery positive (+) → Terminal 5 (H+)
      Battery negative (-) → Terminal 12 (H-)
      Mirror becomes warm

      If the result is not as specified, replace the mirror assembly.

  4. REMOVE OUTER REAR VIEW MIRROR ASSEMBLY RH (w/ Seat Position Memory System) 
    1. Inspect outer mirror operation.
      1. Disconnect the H8 mirror connector.
      2. Apply battery voltage and check operation of the mirror face.

      Standard

      Battery positive (+) → 7 (MV)
      Battery positive (-) → 6 (M+)
      Turns upward (A)

    2. Inspect outer mirror heater operation.
      1. Apply battery voltage and check operation of the mirror heater.

      If the result is not as specified, replace the mirror assembly.

    3. Inspect operation of the mirror position sensor.
      1. Connect the positive (+) lead from the ohmmeter to terminal 9 and the negative (-) lead to terminal 15, and measure the resistance.

        Standard resistance: 

        700 to 1,300Ω 

      2. Check that the resistance between terminals 9 and 10 changes when slowly turning the mirror face right and left.
      3. Check that the resistance between terminals 9 and 16 changes when slowly turning the mirror face right and left.
