Outer Rear View Mirror: Inspection

  1. INSPECT OUTER REAR VIEW MIRROR ASSEMBLY LH 
    1. Apply battery voltage and check the operation of the mirror.

      OK

      Turns upward A

      Battery positive (+) - Terminal 9 (MH)
      Battery negative (-) -Terminal 10 (M+)
      Turns right C
      Battery positive (+) - Terminal 10 (M+)
      Battery negative (-) - Terminal 9 (MH)
      Turns left D

      If the result is not as specified, replace the mirror assembly.

    2. For each position: Disconnect the battery, set the mirror position by hand, connect the battery, and check the retractable mirror's movement.

      NOTE: The mirror position cannot be changed manually when the battery is connected. To change the mirror position manually, the battery must be disconnected first.

      If the result is not as specified, replace the mirror assembly.

    3. Check the mirror position sensor.
      1. Apply battery and dry cell battery voltage to the terminals as shown in the table below.
      2. Measure the voltage when the mirror is in the fully downward and fully upward positions.

        Standard voltage

        If the result is not as specified, replace the mirror assembly.

      3. Measure the voltage when the mirror is in the fully turned to the left and fully turned to the right positions

        Turns to right fully 0 to 1.0 V

        If the result is not as specified, replace the mirror assembly.

    4. Check the mirror heater.
      1. Measure the resistance between terminals 4 and 12 of the connector.

        Standard resistance: 

        3.6 to 4.8 Ω at 25°C (75°F) 

      2. Apply battery voltage and check the operation of the mirror heater.

        OK 

        MEASUREMENT CONDITION AND SPECIFIED CONDITION

        Battery negative (-) - Terminal 12 (-)
        Mirror becomes warm

        HINT:

        It will take a short time for the mirror to become warm.

        If the result is not as specified, replace the mirror assembly.

    5. Check operation of the electrochromic outer mirror LH.
      1. Disconnect the mirror connector.
      2. Apply dry cell battery voltage (1.3 V) to the mirror and check operation of the mirror face.

        OK 

        SPECIFIED CONDITION

        Condition Specified Condition
        Battery positive (+) - 7 (EC+)
        Battery negative (-) -15 (EC-)
        Mirror face darkens

        If the result is not as specified, replace the mirror assembly.

  2. INSPECT OUTER REAR VIEW MIRROR ASSEMBLY RH 
    1. Apply battery voltage and check the operation of the mirror.

      OK

    2. For each position: Disconnect the battery, set the mirror position by hand, connect the battery, and check the retractable mirror's movement.

      NOTE:
      • Disconnect and reconnect the battery between each mirror position check.
      • The mirror position cannot be changed manually when the battery is connected. To change the mirror position manually, the battery must be disconnected first.

      If the result is not as specified, replace the mirror assembly.

    3. Check the mirror position sensor.
      1. Apply battery and dry cell battery voltage to the terminals as shown in the table below.

      2. Measure the voltage when the mirror is in the fully downward and fully upward positions.

        Standard voltage

        If the result is not as specified, replace the mirror assembly.

      3. Measure the voltage when the mirror is in the fully turned to the left and fully turned to the right positions

        If the result is not as specified, replace the mirror assembly.

    4. Check the mirror heater.
      1. Measure the resistance between terminals 4 and 12 of the connector.

    5. Check operation of the electrochromic outer mirror RH.
      1. Disconnect the mirror connector.
      2. Apply dry cell battery voltage (1.3 V) to the mirror and check operation of the mirror face.

        OK 

        SPECIFIED CONDITION

        If the result is not as specified, replace the mirror assembly.
