Section 12 (Starting (2GR-FSE)): Starter: Installation

  1. INSTALL STARTER ASSEMBLY 
    1. Install the starter with the 2 bolts.

      Torque: 58 N*m (591 kgf*cm, 43 ft.*lbf) 

    2. Connect the starter cable with the nut, and then attach the terminal cap.

      Torque: 9.8 N*m (100 kgf*cm, 87 in.*lbf) 

    3. Connect the starter connector.

  2. INSTALL EXHAUST MANIFOLD SUB-ASSEMBLY LH 
    1. Install a new gasket.
    2. Install the exhaust manifold to the cylinder head with the 6 nuts in the order shown in the illustration.

      Torque: 21 N*m (214 kgf*cm, 15 ft.*lbf) 

      NOTE: Do not damage the stud bolt when installing the exhaust manifold.

    3. Connect the sensor connector.

    4. Install the engine wire bracket with the bolt.

      Torque: 10 N*m (102 kgf*cm, 7 ft.*lbf) 

    5. Install the ground cable with the 2 bolts.

      Torque: 10 N*m (102 kgf*cm, 7 ft.*lbf) for Cylinder head 

      13 N*m (133 kgf*cm, 10 ft.*lbf) for Body 

  3. INSTALL FRONT EXHAUST PIPE ASSEMBLY 
    1. Install the front exhaust pipe (see INSTALLATION ).
  4. CONNECT CABLE TO NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL 
  5. CHECK FOR EXHAUST GAS LEAKS (See  INSTALLATION  ) 
  6. INSTALL FRONT PROPELLER SHAFT ASSEMBLY (for 4WD) (See  INSTALLATION  ) 
  7. INSTALL REAR ENGINE UNDER COVER RH (for 2WD) 
  8. INSTALL REAR ENGINE UNDER COVER LH (for 2WD) 
  9. INSTALL NO. 2 ENGINE UNDER COVER (for 2WD) (See  INSTALLATION  ) 
  10. INSTALL ENGINE UNDER COVER (for 4WD) 
  11. INSTALL ENGINE UNDER COVER (for 2WD) 
  12. INSTALL FRONT SEAT ASSEMBLY LH (for 4WD) 
    1. Install the front seat LH (see INSTALLATION ).
  13. INSTALL CONSOLE BOX (for 4WD) (See  INSTALLATION  ) 
  14. INSTALL CONSOLE BOX REGISTER ASSEMBLY (for 4WD) (See  INSTALLATION  ) 
  15. INSTALL CONSOLE BOX PLATE (See  INSTALLATION  ) 
  16. INSTALL INSTRUMENT PANEL FINISH PANEL END LH (See  INSTALLATION  ) 
  17. INSTALL INSTRUMENT PANEL FINISH PANEL END RH (See  INSTALLATION  ) 
  18. INSTALL CONSOLE UPPER PANEL ASSEMBLY (See  INSTALLATION  ) 
  19. INSTALL FRONT CONSOLE UPPER PANEL GARNISH (See  INSTALLATION  ) 
  20. CONNECT NO. 2 RELAY BLOCK 
    1. Connect the No. 2 relay block with the bolt and nut.

      Torque: 12 N*m (125 kgf*cm, 10 ft.*lbf) 

  21. INSTALL V-BANK COVER (See  INSTALLATION  ) 
  22. INSTALL ENGINE ROOM SIDE COVER RH (See  INSTALLATION  ) 
  23. INSTALL ENGINE ROOM SIDE COVER LH (See  INSTALLATION  ) 
  24. INSTALL COOL AIR INTAKE DUCT SEAL (See  INSTALLATION  ) 
  25. PERFORM INITIALIZATION 
    1. Perform initialization (see INITIALIZATION ).
      NOTE: Certain systems need to be initialized after disconnecting and reconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal.
