Rear Axle Hub: Installation

  1. INSTALL REAR AXLE HUB AND BEARING ASSEMBLY 
    1. Hold the axle hub and bearing assembly in a vise between aluminum plates.
      NOTE: Do not overtighten the vise.
    2. Install the axle hub and bearing assembly to the rear axle carrier sub-assembly with the 4 bolts.

      Torque: 70 N*m (714 kgf*cm, 52 ft.*lbf)

  2. INSTALL REAR WHEEL BEARING DUST DEFLECTOR NO.2 
    1. Using SST and a hammer, install the bearing dust deflector No.2 to the rear axle carrier sub-assembly.

      SST 09951-01000, 09950-70010 (09951-07150) 

      HINT:

      Align the hole for the speed sensor in the bearing dust deflector No.2 with the rear axle carrier sub-assembly.

  3. INSTALL REAR AXLE ASSEMBLY 
    1. Install the rear drive shaft assembly and rear axle assembly.
  4. INSTALL UPPER CONTROL ARM ASSEMBLY REAR NO.2 
    1. Install the upper control arm assembly rear No.2 to the rear axle carrier sub-assembly with a new nut.

      Torque: 70 N*m (714 kgf*cm, 52 ft.*lbf)

  5. TEMPORARILY TIGHTEN UPPER CONTROL ARM ASSEMBLY REAR NO.1 
    1. Temporarily tighten the upper control arm assembly rear No. 1 to the rear axle carrier sub-assembly with the bolt, washer and nut.

      HINT:

      Install the bolt from the rear side of the vehicle and lightly tighten the bolt.

  6. TEMPORARILY TIGHTEN REAR SUSPENSION ARM ASSEMBLY NO.1 
    1. Temporarily tighten the rear suspension arm assembly No.1 to the rear axle carrier sub-assembly with the bolt and nut.

      HINT:

      Install the bolt from the rear side of the vehicle and lightly tighten the bolt.

  7. TEMPORARILY TIGHTEN REAR SUSPENSION ARM ASSEMBLY NO.2 
    1. Temporarily tighten the rear suspension arm assembly No.2 to the rear axle carrier sub-assembly with the bolt and nut.

      HINT:

      Install the bolt from the rear side of the vehicle and lightly tighten the bolt.

  8. INSTALL TOE CONTROL LINK SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    1. Install the toe control link sub-assembly to the rear axle carrier sub-assembly with a new nut.

      Torque: 70 N*m (714 kgf*cm, 52 ft.*lbf) 

  9. INSTALL LOAD SENSING VALVE SENSOR BRACKET (See  INSTALLATION  ) 
  10. APPLY HIGH TEMPERATURE GREASE (See  INSPECTION  ) 
  11. INSTALL PARKING BRAKE ANCHOR BLOCK 
    1. Install the parking brake anchor block sub-assembly to the rear axle carrier sub-assembly with the 2 nuts.

      Torque: 76 N*m (775 kgf*cm, 56 ft.*lbf) 

  12. INSTALL PARKING BRAKE SHOE LEVER (See  REASSEMBLY  ) 
  13. INSTALL PARKING BRAKE SHOE ASSEMBLY NO.2 (See  REASSEMBLY  ) 
  14. INSTALL PARKING BRAKE SHOE ASSEMBLY NO.1 (See  REASSEMBLY  ) 
  15. INSTALL PARKING BRAKE SHOE ADJUSTING SCREW SET (See  REASSEMBLY  ) 
  16. INSTALL PARKING BRAKE SHOE NO. 1 RETURN SPRING (See  REASSEMBLY  ) 
  17. INSTALL PARKING BRAKE SHOE NO. 2 RETURN SPRING (See  REASSEMBLY  ) 
  18. CHECK PARKING BRAKE INSTALLATION (See  REASSEMBLY  ) 
  19. INSTALL SPEED SENSOR REAR (See  INSTALLATION  ) 
  20. INSTALL REAR AXLE SHAFT NUT 
    1. Install a new rear axle shaft nut.

      Torque: 290 N*m (2,957 kgf*cm, 214 ft.*lbf) 

      HINT:

      Stake the nut after inspecting for looseness and runout in the following steps.

  21. INSPECT REAR AXLE HUB BEARING LOOSENESS (See  ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION  ) 
  22. INSPECT REAR AXLE HUB RUNOUT (See  ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION  ) 
  23. INSTALL REAR DISC (See  REASSEMBLY  ) 
  24. ADJUST PARKING BRAKE SHOE CLEARANCE (See  PARKING BRAKE SYSTEM  ) 
  25. INSTALL REAR DISC BRAKE CALIPER ASSEMBLY (See  INSTALLATION  ) 
  26. INSTALL REAR AXLE SHAFT NUT 
    1. Using a chisel and a hammer, stake the axle shaft nut.

  27. STABILIZE SUSPENSION (See  REMOVAL  ) 
  28. FULLY TIGHTEN UPPER CONTROL ARM ASSEMBLY REAR NO.1 
    1. Fully tighten the upper control arm assembly rear No.1 with the nut.

      Torque: 161 N*m (1,642 kgf*cm, 119 in.*lbf)

  29. FULLY TIGHTEN REAR SUSPENSION ARM ASSEMBLY NO.1 
    1. Fully tighten the rear suspension arm assembly No. 1 with the bolt and nut.

      Torque: 95 N*m (969 kgf*cm, 70 ft.*lbf) 

      NOTE: Turn the bolt while holding the nut.

  30. FULLY TIGHTEN REAR SUSPENSION ARM ASSEMBLY NO.2 
    1. Fully tighten the rear suspension arm assembly No.2 with the bolt and nut.

      Torque: 161 N*m (1,642 kgf*cm, 119 in.*lbf) 

      NOTE: Turn the bolt while holding the nut.
  31. INSTALL REAR TIRE 

    Torque: 103 N*m (1,050 kgf*cm, 76 ft.*lbf) 

  32. INSPECT PARKING BRAKE PEDAL TRAVEL (See  PARKING BRAKE SYSTEM  ) 
  33. ADJUST PARKING BRAKE PEDAL TRAVEL (See  PARKING BRAKE SYSTEM  ) 
  34. INSPECT AND ADJUST REAR WHEEL ALIGNMENT 

    (See REAR WHEEL ALIGNMENT )

  35. CHECK ABS SPEED SENSOR SIGNAL 

    (w/ Electronically Controlled Brake System: See TEST MODE PROCEDURE )

    (w/ o Electronically Controlled Brake System: See TEST MODE PROCEDURE )
