Operation Check

  1. SELF-CHECK FUNCTION INSPECTION
    1. Turn the engine switch on (IG).
    2. When the intuitive parking assist system is turned ON, check that the following occurs: 1) after 0.1 milliseconds, the buzzer sounds for approximately 0.8 seconds, and 2) the system starts the obstacle detection operation.

      HINT:

      • If a sensor has an open circuit or a sensor's detection operation malfunctions because it is wet or frozen, a malfunction display is shown in the multi-information display and multi-display, and the buzzer sounds.
      • When the sensor condition returns to normal, the system ends normal clearance sonar mode and returns to steering sensing mode.
      • If the clearance sonar main switch is ON and the engine switch is turned on (IG), the buzzer does not sound.
  2. MALFUNCTION DISPLAY (MULTI-INFORMATION DISPLAY)
    1. Ultrasonic sensor open circuit
      1. If there is an open circuit between the ultrasonic sensor and the clearance warning ECU or a sensor is malfunctioning, the malfunction is displayed as shown in the illustration.

        HINT:

        • The example shows an open circuit in the No. 3 ultrasonic sensor (front left sensor).
        • If a sensor has an open circuit, refer to "open circuit is displayed during self-check function" on the Problem Symptoms Table to inspect it.
    2. Ultrasonic sensor frozen
      1. If a sensor is covered with foreign matter, such as mud or snow, the affected sensor is displayed as shown in the illustration.
Fig 3: Identifying Ultrasonic Sensor Frozen Display

        HINT:

        • The example shows that the No. 3 ultrasonic sensor (front left sensor) is covered with foreign matter.
        • If "CLEAN SONAR" is displayed, cleaning the foreign matter from the sensor will return the sensor to normal.
    3. Steering angle information failure display
      1. A malfunction condition is displayed as shown in the illustration if one of the following occurs: 1) the steering angle sensor is determined to be malfunctioning; 2) the VGRS system*1 is malfunctioning; 3) there is an open circuit between the steering angle sensor and clearance warning ECU; or 4) as a result of low battery voltage, CAN communication information is blocked.

        HINT:

        • *1: Variable gear ratio steering system (3UZ-FE only)
        • The steering angle sensor and VGRS system communicate with the clearance warning ECU via the CAN.
        • When a steering angle information failure occurs, the system enters normal clearance sonar mode.
    4. Steering angle mid-point learning operation display
      1. If the malfunction can be repaired by disconnecting and reconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal, or performing the steering angle mid-point learning operation again, it is displayed as shown in the illustration.
Fig 5: Identifying Steering Angle Mid-Point Learning Operation Display

        HINT:

        • When the steering angle mid-point learning operation is complete, the steering sensing function returns to normal.
        • During the steering angle mid-point learning operation, the system enters normal clearance sonar mode.
  3. MALFUNCTION DISPLAY (MULTI-DISPLAY)
    1. Ultrasonic sensor open circuit
      1. If there is an open circuit between the ultrasonic sensor and the clearance warning ECU or a sensor is malfunctioning, the malfunction is displayed as shown in the illustration.

        HINT:

        • This example shows an open circuit in the No. 1 ultrasonic sensor (rear right sensor).

        HINT:

        • The example shows that the No. 3 ultrasonic sensor (front left sensor) is covered with foreign matter.
        • If "CLEAN SONAR" is displayed, cleaning the foreign matter from the sensor will return the sensor to normal.

    3. Steering angle information failure display
      1. A malfunction condition is displayed as shown in the illustration if one of the following occurs: 1) the steering angle sensor is determined to be malfunctioning; 2) the VGRS system *1 is malfunctioning; 3) there is an open circuit between the steering angle sensor and clearance warning ECU; or 4) as a result of low battery voltage, CAN communication information is blocked.

        HINT:

        • *1: Variable gear ratio steering system (3UZ-FE only)
        • The steering angle sensor and VGRS system communicate with the clearance warning ECU via the CAN.
        • When a steering angle information failure occurs, the system enters normal clearance sonar mode.
        • The detection range display labeled *2 appears in normal clearance sonar mode.

      • Ultrasonic waves are used to measure the detection range. However, the detection range may vary depending on the ambient temperature.
      • "During collision judgment" refers to situations where the obstacle cannot be avoided using the steering wheel.
      • "During avoidance judgment" refers to situations where the obstacle can be avoided using the steering wheel.
      • "During low priority avoidance judgment" refers to situations where, with the current steering wheel position, the vehicle will not come within 250 mm (9.84 in.) of the obstacle.
      • *5 in the illustration refers to the color and status of the steering guide mark on the displays.
      • When the shift lever is on R, the front left center and front right center sensors do not operate.
