Water Pump ASSY: Replacement

  1. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL 
    CAUTION: Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to prevent airbag and seat belt pretensioner activation.
  2. REMOVE RADIATOR ASSY (See  REPLACEMENT   ) 
  3. REMOVE TIMING BELT (See  TIMING BELT  ) 
  4. REMOVE TIMING BELT IDLER SUB-ASSY NO. 2 (See  TIMING BELT  ) 
  5. REMOVE WATER INLET HOUSING 
    1. Disconnect the water by-pass hose and remove the 2 bolts, water inlet housing and O-ring.

  6. REMOVE WATER PUMP ASSY 
    1. Remove the 5 bolts, 2 stud bolts, nut, water pump and gasket.
  7. INSTALL WATER PUMP ASSY 
    1. Install a new gasket and the water pump with the 5 bolts, 2 stud bolts and nut. Uniformly tighten the bolts, stud bolts and nut in several passes.

      Torque: 18 N.m (184 kgf.cm, 13 ft.lbf) 

    HINT:

    The bolt length is 30 mm (1.18 in.).

  8. INSTALL WATER INLET HOUSING 
    1. Install a new O-ring.
    2. Apply soapy water to the O-ring.
    3. Apply seal packing to the groove of the water inlet housing as shown in Fig 3.

      Seal packing: Part No. 08826-00100 or equivalent Seal width: 2 to 3 mm (0.08 to 0.12 in.) 

      NOTE:
      • After applying seal packing, install the part within 5 minutes.
      • Prevent damage to the O-ring by keeping it away from engine oil.

    4. Install the water inlet housing with the 2 bolts.

      Torque: 18 N.m (184 kgf.cm, 13 ft.lbf) 

      HINT:

      The bolt length is as shown in BOLT LENGTH SPECIFICATION TABLE .

      Length:

      BOLT LENGTH SPECIFICATION TABLE

      Bolt A 75 mm (2.95 in.)
      Bolt B 25 mm (0.98 in.)

    5. Connect the water by-pass hose.
  9. INSTALL TIMING BELT IDLER SUB-ASSY NO. 2 (See  TIMING BELT  ) 
  10. INSTALL TIMING BELT (See  TIMING BELT  ) 
  11. INSTALL RADIATOR ASSY (See  REPLACEMENT   ) 
  12. CONNECT CABLE TO NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL 
  13. PERFORM INITIALIZATION (See  INITIALIZATION  ) 
    NOTE: Certain systems need to be initialized after disconnecting and reconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal.
  14. CHECK FOR ENGINE COOLANT LEAKS (See  COOLING SYSTEM   )
