Cooling Fan: Thermostat: Replacement

  1. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL 
    CAUTION: Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to prevent airbag and seat belt pretensioner activation.
  2. REMOVE AIR CLEANER INLET NO. 1 
  3. DRAIN ENGINE COOLANT 
  4. REMOVE THERMOSTAT 
    1. Remove the 3 nuts and disconnect the water inlet from the water inlet housing.
    2. Remove the thermostat.
    3. Remove the gasket from the thermostat.

  5. INSTALL THERMOSTAT 
    1. Install a new gasket to the thermostat.
    2. Insert the thermostat into the water inlet housing with the jiggle valve as shown in Fig 2.

      HINT:

      The jiggle valve may be set within 30° of either side of the prescribed position.

    3. Install the water inlet with the 3 nuts.

      Torque: 19 N.m (194 kgf.cm, 14 ft.lbf)

  6. ADD ENGINE COOLANT 
  7. CHECK FOR ENGINE COOLANT LEAKS (See  COOLING SYSTEM   ) 
  8. INSTALL AIR CLEANER INLET NO. 1 
  9. CONNECT CABLE TO NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL 
  10. PERFORM INITIALIZATION (See  INITIALIZATION  ) 
    NOTE: Certain systems need to be initialized after disconnecting and reconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal.
