Idler Gear: Disassembly
- CHECK IDLER LOW GEAR RADIAL AND THRUST CLEARANCE
- Using a feeler gauge, measure the idler low gear thrust clearance.
Standard clearance: 0.125 to 0.275 mm (0.0049 to 0.0108 in.)
Maximum clearance: 0.275 mm (0.0108 in.)
If the clearance is greater than the maximum, replace the idler low gear, needle roller bearing or idler gear.
- Using a dial indicator, measure the idler low gear radial clearance.
Standard clearance: 0.015 to 0.068 mm (0.0006 to 0.0027 in.)
Maximum clearance: 0.068 mm (0.0027 in.)
If the clearance is greater than the maximum, replace the idler low gear, needle roller bearing or idler gear.
- Using a feeler gauge, measure the idler low gear thrust clearance.
- REMOVE FRONT TAPER ROLLER BEARING
- Using SST, remove the taper roller bearing.
SST 09950-40011 (09951-04010, 09952-04010, 09953-04030, 09955-04061, 09957-04010, 09958-04011), 09950-60010 (09951-00330)
NOTE: Set the claw of SST to the bearing inner race securely. - REMOVE REAR TAPER ROLLER BEARING
- Using SST, a press and socket wrench, press out the taper roller bearing.

NOTE: Set the claw of SST to the bearing inner race securely. - REMOVE IDLER LOW GEAR AND NEEDLE ROLLER BEARING
- Remove the idler low gear and needle roller bearing from the idler gear.
- REMOVE HIGH AND LOW CLUTCH SLEEVE
- Remove the high and low clutch sleeve from the idler gear.
