Back Door Glass: Removal

  1. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL 
    CAUTION: Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to prevent airbag and seat belt pretensioner activation.
  2. REMOVE ASSIST GRIP PLUG 
  3. REMOVE ASSIST GRIP (see  DISASSEMBLY  ) 
  4. REMOVE BACK DOOR INSIDE HANDLE BEZEL 
  5. REMOVE BACK DOOR GARNISH CENTER (see  DISASSEMBLY  ) 
  6. REMOVE BACK DOOR GARNISH (see  DISASSEMBLY  ) 
  7. REMOVE REAR WIPER ARM (see  DISASSEMBLY  ) 
  8. REMOVE BACK WINDOW MOULDING OUTSIDE 
    1. Using a knife, cut off the moulding as shown.

      NOTE: Do not damage the body with the knife.
  9. REMOVE BACK DOOR GLASS 
    1. Disconnect the connector.
    2. Push piano wire through between the body and glass from the interior.

    3. Tie both wire ends to wooden blocks or similar object.

      HINT:

      Apply protective tape to the outer surface to keep the surface from being scratched.

      NOTE: When separating the glass, take care not to damage the paint and exterior ornaments.
    4. Cut the adhesive by pulling the piano wire around it.
    5. Remove the glass.
      NOTE: Leave as much adhesive on the body as possible when cutting off the glass.
  10. CLEAN VEHICLE BODY 
    1. Clean and shape the contact surface of the vehicle body.
      1. On the contact surface of the vehicle body, use a knife to cut away excess adhesive as shown in the illustration.

        HINT:

        Leave as much adhesive on the vehicle body as possible.

        NOTE: Be careful not to damage the vehicle body.
    2. Clean the contact surface of the vehicle body with cleaner.

      HINT:

      Even if all the adhesive has been removed, clean the vehicle body.

  11. CLEAN BACK DOOR GLASS 
    1. Using a scraper, remove the damaged stoppers and adhesive sticking to the glass.
    2. Clean the outer edges of the glass with white gasoline.

      NOTE:
      • Do not touch the glass surface after cleaning it.
      • Even if using new glass, clean it with white gasoline.
