Water Pump ASSY: Replacement
- DISCONNECT BATTERY NEGATIVE TERMINAL
- DRAIN ENGINE COOLANT (See REPLACEMENT )
- REMOVE ENGINE UNDER COVER NO.1
- REMOVE RADIATOR ASSY
- REMOVE TIMING BELT (See REPLACEMENT )
- REMOVE WATER INLET HOUSING
- Disconnect the water hose and remove the 2 bolts, inlet housing and O-ring.
- REMOVE TIMING BELT IDLER SUB-ASSY NO.2 (See OVERHAUL )
- REMOVE WATER PUMP ASSY
- Remove the 5 bolts, water pump and gasket.
- INSTALL WATER PUMP ASSY
- Install a new gasket and the water pump with the 5 bolts, 2 stud bolts and nut.
- Torque:
- 21 N m (215 kgf cm, 15 ft lbf) for bolt
- 18 N m (185 kgf cm, 13 ft lbf) for stud bolt
HINT:
Use a bolt this is 30 mm (1.18 in.) in length.
NOTE: Uniformly tighten the bolts, stud bolts and nuts. Tighten them little by little in diagonal pairs. For example, after tightening an upper-right side bolt 30 %; or after tighten a lower-left side bolt 30 %; or after tightening a left side bolt 30 %, tighten a right side bolt 30 %. - INSTALL WATER INLET HOUSING
- Install a new O-ring.
- Apply soapy water to the O-ring.
- Apply seal packing to the groove of the water inlet housing as shown in the illustration.
- Seal packing: Part No. 08826-00100 or equivalent
NOTE:- After applying seal packing, install the part within 5 minutes.
- Be sure to keep this O-ring away from engine oil. The O-ring must be replaced if it contacts engine oil.
- Install the water inlet housing with the 2 bolts. Then connect the water hose.
- Bolt length:
- 75 mm (2.95 in.) for bolt A
- 25 mm (0.98 in.) for bolt B
- INSTALL TIMING BELT IDLER SUB-ASSY NO.2 (See OVERHAUL )
- INSTALL TIMING BELT (See REPLACEMENT )
- INSTALL RADIATOR ASSY (See REPLACEMENT )
- REFILL ENGINE COOLANT (See REPLACEMENT )
- CONNECT BATTERY NEGATIVE TERMINAL NOTE: When disconnecting the negative (-) battery terminal, initialize the following systems after the terminal is reconnected (see INITIALIZATION ).
- CHECK FOR ENGINE COOLANT LEAKS (See ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION )
- INSTALL ENGINE UNDER COVER NO.1
