Inspection Procedure

  1. CHECK ILLUMINATION 
    1. Check if the illumination for the multi-display, radio receiver, glove box, or other (hazard switch, cigarette lighter etc.) comes on when the light control switch is turned to the HEAD or TAIL position.

      Result 

      ILLUMINATION

      Result Proceed to
      Illumination comes on for all components except multi-display. A
      No illumination comes on. B

      B: GO TO  LIGHTING SYSTEM 

      A: Go to Next Step 

  2. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (MULTI-DISPLAY - BATTERY) 
    1. Disconnect the M21 display connector.
    2. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard voltage 

      MULTI-DISPLAY - BATTERY

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      M21-12 (ILL+) - Body ground Light control switch OFF Below 1 V
      M21-12 (ILL+) - Body ground Light control switch TAIL or HEAD 11 to 14 V

      NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

      OK: Go to Next Step 

  3. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (RHEOSTAT - MULTI-DISPLAY AND BODY GROUND) 
    1. Disconnect the R12 rheostat connector.
    2. Disconnect the M21 display connector.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard resistance 

      RHEOSTAT - MULTI-DISPLAY AND BODY GROUND

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      R12-3 (ILL-) - R21-11 (ILL-) Always Below 1 Ω
      R12-S (E) - Body ground Always Below 1 Ω
      R12-3 (ILL-) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

      NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

      OK: PROCEED TO NEXT CIRCUIT INSPECTION SHOWN IN  PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE
