Inspection Procedure

HINT:

  1. READ VALUE OF HAND-HELD TESTER (STARTER SIGNAL) 
    1. Connect the hand-held tester to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON and turn the hand-held tester ON.
    3. On the hand-held tester, select the item: DIAGNOSIS / ENHANCED OBD II / DATA LIST / ALL / STARTER SIG.
    4. Read the values.

      Result: 

      STARTER SIGNAL

      Ignition Switch Position ON START
      STARTER SIG OFF ON

    OK: Go to step   5 

    NG: Go to next step. 

  2. INSPECT PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH ASSY 
    1. Disconnect the P1 park/neutral position switch connector.
    2. Check the resistance between each terminal shown in PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH ASSY  when the shift lever is moved to each position.

      Standard: 

      PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH ASSY

      Shift Position Tester Connection Specified Condition
      P 2 - 6, 4 - 5 Below 1 Ω
      R 1 - 2 Below 1 Ω
      N 2 - 9, 4 - 5 Below 1 Ω
      D,4 2 - 7 Below 1 Ω
      3 2 - 4 Below 1 Ω
      2, L 2 - 8 Below 1 Ω

    3. Reconnect the park/neutral position switch connector.

    NG: REPLACE PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH ASSY (See  PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH ASSY  ) (GO TO NEXT STEP   5  AFTER THE REPLACEMENT) 

    OK: Go to next step. 

  3. INSPECT IGNITION OR STARTER SWITCH ASSY 
    1. Disconnect the I18 ignition switch connector.
    2. Measure the resistance between the connector terminals shown in IGNITION OR STARTER SWITCH ASSY  .

      Standard: 

      IGNITION OR STARTER SWITCH ASSY

      Switch Position Tester Connection Specified Condition
      LOCK All Terminals 10 kΩ or higher
      ACC 2-3 Below 1 Ω
      ON 2-3, 2-4, 6-7 Below 1 Ω
      START 1-2, 2-4, 6-7, 6-8 Below 1 Ω

    3. Reconnect the ignition switch connector.

    NG: REPLACE IGNITION OR STARTER SWITCH ASSY (GO TO STEP   5  AFTER THE REPLACEMENT) 

    OK: Go to next step. 

  4. READ VALUE OF HAND-HELD TESTER (STARTER SIGNAL) 
    1. Connect the hand-held tester to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON and turn the hand-held tester ON.
    3. On the hand-held tester, select the item: DIAGNOSIS / ENHANCED OBD II / DATA LIST / ALL / STARTER SIG.
    4. Read the values.

      Result: 

      STARTER SIGNAL

      Ignition Switch Position ON START
      STARTER SIG OFF ON

    NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK: Go to next step. 

  5. CHECK IF DTC OUTPUT REOCCURS 
    1. Connect the hand-held tester to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON and turn the hand-held tester ON.
    3. To erase DTC, enter the following menus: DIAGNOSIS / ENHANCED OBD II / DTC INFO / CLEAR CODE; and press YES.
    4. Drive the vehicle more than 25 mph (40 km/h) for 20 seconds or more.
    5. Check DTC reoccur.

      Result: 

      IF DTC OUTPUT REOCCURS

      Display (DTC output) Proceed To
      P0617 A
      No output B

    B: CHECK FOR INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS 

    A: REPLACE ECM (See  REPLACEMENT  )
