Inspection Procedure
HINT:
- This DTC chart is on the premise that the engine is cranked normally. If the engine is not cranked, proceed to PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE .
- Read freeze frame data using the hand-held tester. Freeze frame data records the engine conditions when a malfunction is detected. When troubleshooting, freeze frame data can help determine if the vehicle was running or stopped, if the engine was warmed up or not, if the air-fuel ratio was lean or rich, and other data from the time the malfunction occurred.
- READ VALUE OF HAND-HELD TESTER (STARTER SIGNAL)
- Connect the hand-held tester to the DLC3.
- Turn the ignition switch to ON and turn the hand-held tester ON.
- On the hand-held tester, select the item: DIAGNOSIS / ENHANCED OBD II / DATA LIST / ALL / STARTER SIG.
- Read the values.
Result:
STARTER SIGNALIgnition Switch Position ON START STARTER SIG OFF ON
OK: Go to step 5
NG: Go to next step.
- INSPECT PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH ASSY
- Disconnect the P1 park/neutral position switch connector.
- Check the resistance between each terminal shown in PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH ASSY
when the shift lever is moved to each position.
Standard:
PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH ASSYShift Position Tester Connection Specified Condition P 2 - 6, 4 - 5 Below 1 Ω R 1 - 2 Below 1 Ω N 2 - 9, 4 - 5 Below 1 Ω D,4 2 - 7 Below 1 Ω 3 2 - 4 Below 1 Ω 2, L 2 - 8 Below 1 Ω - Reconnect the park/neutral position switch connector.
NG: REPLACE PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH ASSY (See PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH ASSY ) (GO TO NEXT STEP 5 AFTER THE REPLACEMENT)
OK: Go to next step.
- INSPECT IGNITION OR STARTER SWITCH ASSY
- Disconnect the I18 ignition switch connector.
- Measure the resistance between the connector terminals shown in IGNITION OR STARTER SWITCH ASSY
.
Standard:
IGNITION OR STARTER SWITCH ASSYSwitch Position Tester Connection Specified Condition LOCK All Terminals 10 kΩ or higher ACC 2-3 Below 1 Ω ON 2-3, 2-4, 6-7 Below 1 Ω START 1-2, 2-4, 6-7, 6-8 Below 1 Ω - Reconnect the ignition switch connector.

Result:
STARTER SIGNALIgnition Switch Position ON START STARTER SIG OFF ON
NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR
OK: Go to next step.
- CHECK IF DTC OUTPUT REOCCURS
- Connect the hand-held tester to the DLC3.
- Turn the ignition switch to ON and turn the hand-held tester ON.
- To erase DTC, enter the following menus: DIAGNOSIS / ENHANCED OBD II / DTC INFO / CLEAR CODE; and press YES.
