Exhaust Pipe ASSY: Replacement

  1. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL 
    CAUTION: Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to prevent airbag and seat belt pretensioner activation.
  2. Bank 1 sensor 2, bank 2 sensor 2: DISCONNECT HEATED OXYGEN SENSOR 
    1. Remove the 5 bolts and engine under cover No. 2.
    2. Remove the 2 heated oxygen sensors.
  3. REMOVE EXHAUST PIPE ASSY TAIL 
    1. Remove the 4 nuts, 4 bolts, 4 rings, exhaust pipe and 2 gaskets.
    2. Remove the 2 bolts and 2 tail baffles from the exhaust pipe.
  4. REMOVE FRONT FLOOR BRACE CENTER 
    1. Remove the 4 bolts and floor brace center.
  5. REMOVE EXHAUST PIPE ASSY CENTER 
    1. Remove the 2 nuts, 2 bolts, 2 rings, exhaust pipe and gasket.
  6. REMOVE EXHAUST PIPE ASSY FRONT 
    1. Remove the 4 nuts, 4 bolts, exhaust pipe and 2 gaskets.
  7. REMOVE EXHAUST PIPE NO.1 SUPPORT BRACKET SUB-ASSY 
    1. Remove the 2 bolts and bracket.
  8. REMOVE TWC 
    1. Remove the 6 nuts, 2 TWCs and 2 gaskets.
  9. INSTALL TWC 
    1. Install 2 new gaskets and 2 TWCs with 6 new nuts.

      Torque: 62 N.m (632 kgf.cm, 46 ft.lbf) 

  10. INSTALL EXHAUST PIPE NO.1 SUPPORT BRACKET SUB-ASSY 
    1. Install the bracket with the 2 bolts.

      Torque: 43 N.m (438 kgf.cm, 32 ft.lbf) 

  11. INSTALL EXHAUST PIPE ASSY FRONT 
    1. Install 2 new gaskets and the exhaust pipe with the 4 nuts and 4 bolts.

      Torque: 43 N.m (438 kgf.cm, 32 ft.lbf) 

  12. INSTALL EXHAUST PIPE ASSY CENTER 
    1. Install a new gasket and the exhaust pipe with the 2 nuts, 2 bolts and 2 rings.

      Torque: 43 N.m (438 kgf.cm, 32 ft.lbf) 

  13. INSTALL FRONT FLOOR BRACE CENTER 
    1. Install the floor brace with the 4 bolts.

      Torque: 13 N.m (133 kgf.cm, 10 ft.lbf) 

  14. INSTALL EXHAUST PIPE ASSY TAIL 
    1. Install the 2 tail baffles to the exhaust pipe with the 2 bolts.

      Torque: 8.0 N.m (82 kgf.cm, 71 in.lbf) 

    2. Install 2 new gaskets and the exhaust pipe with the 4 nuts, 4 bolts and 4 rings.

      Torque: 43 N.m (438 kgf.cm, 32 ft.lbf) 

  15. Bank 1 sensor 2, bank 2 sensor 2: INSTALL HEATED OXYGEN SENSOR 
    1. Twist the sensor wire counterclockwise 3.5 turns and install the sensor.

      Torque: 44 N.m (449 kgf.cm, 32 ft.lbf) 

    2. After installing the sensor, check that the sensor wire is not twisted.

      If it is twisted, remove the sensor and reinstall it.

  16. CONNECT CABLE TO NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL 
  17. PERFORM INITIALIZATION (See  INITIALIZATION  ) 
    NOTE: Certain systems need to be initialized after disconnecting and reconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal.
  18. CHECK FOR EXHAUST GAS LEAKS 

    If gas is leaking, tighten areas as necessary to stop the leak. Replace damaged parts as necessary.
