Inspection Procedure

  1. INSPECT STOP LAMP SWITCH OPERATION 
    1. Check that the stop lamp lights up when brake pedal is depressed and turns OFF when the brake pedal is released.
    1. NG: INSPECT STOP LAMP SWITCH CIRCUIT (See  DTC C1249/49: OPEN CIRCUIT IN STOP LIGHT SWITCH CIRCUIT  ) 
    2. OK: Go to Next Step 
  2. INSPECT STOP LAMP SWITCH ASSY 
    1. Disconnect the stop lamp switch assy connector.
    2. Measure the continuity between each terminal of the stop lamp switch assy.

    Standard: 

    TESTER CONNECTION

    Switch condition Tester connection Specification
    Switch pin free 1 - 2 Continuity
    Switch pin free 3 - 4 No continuity
    Switch pin pushed in 1 - 2 No continuity
    Switch pin pushed in 3 - 4 Continuity

    1. NG: REPLACE STOP LAMP SWITCH ASSY 
    2. OK: Go to Next Step 
  3. INSPECT ECM 
    1. Remove the ECM with connectors.
    2. Turn the ignition switch ON.
    3. Measure voltage between terminal STP of ECM connector and body ground when the brake pedal is depressed and released.

      Standard: 

      PEDAL VOLTAGE

      Pedal condition Voltage (V)
      Depressed 10 to 14
      Released Below 1

    4. Measure voltage between terminal ST1 - of ECM connector and body ground when the brake pedal is depressed and released.

    Standard: 

    PEDAL VOLTAGE

    Pedal condition Voltage (V)
    Depressed Below 1
    Released 10 to 14

    1. NG: REPLACE ECM (See  ELECTRONIC CIRCUIT INSPECTION PROCEDURE  ) 
    2. OK: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR
