Inspection Procedure

  1. CHECK DTC 
    1. Check for DTC B2222. DTC B2222 indicates a pulse sensor malfunction.
      1. Without code outputs, proceed to A.
      2. With code outputs, proceed to B.
    1. B: Go to  DTC B2222 PBD PULSE SENSOR MALFUNCTION  
    2. A: GO TO NEXT STEP. 
  2. VISUALLY CHECK 
    1. Check for foreign objects on the operating area.
    1. NG: REMOVE OBSTACLES AND RE-CHECK DOOR OPERATION 
    2. OK: Go to next step. 
  3. CHECK MANUAL OPERATION 
    1. Push off the power back door off switch in order to locate the area where reverse operation has been triggered.
    2. Move the back door manually, and then check that there are no obstacles present (no extra resistance) around the reverse operation area and that the back door smoothly operates.
    1. NG: ADJUST FITTING CONDITION OF BACK DOOR (see  ADJUSTMENT  ) 
    2. OK: Go to next step. 
  4. READ VALUE OF HAND-HELD TESTER (POWER BACK DOOR TOUCH SENSOR LH) 
    1. Check the DATA LIST for proper functioning of the power back door touch sensor LH.

      Standard: 

      Power back door ECU 

      DATA LIST CHART - POWER BACK DOOR ECU

      PBD TOUCH SEN L Power back door touch sensor LH signal/OFF, ON or OPEN OFF: Power back door touch sensor LH is free -
      ON: Power back door touch sensor LH is pressed
      OPEN: Power back door touch sensor LH is open
    1. OK: Go to step   7 
    2. NG: GO TO NEXT STEP. 
  5. INSPECT POWER BACK DOOR TOUCH SENSOR LH 
    1. Check the resistance of the sensor.

      Standard: 

      TESTER CONNECTION AND SPECIFIED CONDITION CHART

      Tester Connection Condition Specified condition
      1 - 2 Free Approx. 1 kΩ
      1 - 2 Pressed Below 100 Ω

    1. NG: REPLACE POWER BACK DOOR TOUCH SENSOR LH 
    2. OK: Go to next step. 
  6. CHECK WIRE HARNESS (POWER BACK DOOR TOUCH SENSOR LH - POWER BACK DOOR ECU) 
    1. Disconnect the P15 sensor and P13 ECU connectors.

    3. Check the resistance of the wire harness side connectors.

      Standard: 

      TESTER CONNECTION AND SPECIFIED CONDITION CHART

      Tester Connection Specified Condition
      P15-1 (OSL) - P13-14 (OSL) Below 1 Ω
      P15-2 (OSLE) - P13-15 (OSE) Below 1 Ω
    1. NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS AND CONNECTOR 
    2. OK: REPLACE POWER BACK DOOR ECU 
  7. READ VALUE OF HAND-HELD TESTER (POWER BACK DOOR TOUCH SENSOR LH) 
    1. Check the DATA LIST for proper functioning of the power back door touch sensor RH.

      Standard: 

      Power back door ECU 

      DATA LIST CHART - POWER BACK DOOR ECU

    1. OK: Go to step   10 
    2. NG: Go to next step. 
  8. INSPECT POWER BACK DOOR TOUCH SENSOR RH 
    1. Check the resistance of the sensor.

      Standard: 

      TESTER CONNECTION AND SPECIFIED CONDITION CHART

      Tester Connection Condition Specified condition
      1 - 2 Free Approx. 1 kΩ
      1 - 2 Pressed Below 100 Ω

    1. NG: REPLACE POWER BACK DOOR TOUCH SENSOR RH 
    2. OK: Go to next step. 
  9. CHECK WIRE HARNESS (POWER BACK DOOR TOUCH SENSOR RH - POWER BACK DOOR ECU) 
    1. Disconnect the P16 sensor and P13 ECU connectors.

    3. Check the resistance of the wire harness side connectors.

      Standard: 

      TESTER CONNECTION AND SPECIFIED CONDITION CHART

      Tester Connection Specified Condition
      P16-1 (OSR) - P13- 16 (OSR) Below 1 Ω
      P16-2 (OSRE) - P13- 15 (OSE) Below 1 Ω
    1. NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS AND CONNECTOR 
    2. OK: REPLACE POWER BACK DOOR ECU 
  10. PERFORM ACTIVE TEST USING HAND-HELD TESTER 
    1. Select the ACTIVE TEST, use the hand-held tester to generate a control command, and then check that the power back door drive unit operates.

      Standard: 

      Power back door ECU 

      ACTIVE TEST CHART

      Item Test Details Diagnostic Note
      PBD MOTOR Power back door motor operates OFF/FORWARD/REVERSE Clutch is OFF while power back door motor is operating
      PBD CLUTCH Power back door clutch operates OFF/ON Power back door motor is OFF when clutch is ON
    1. OK REPLACE POWER BACK DOOR ECU (RECHECK DOOR OPERATION) 
    2. NG: GO TO NEXT STEP. 
  11. INSPECT POWER BACK DOOR DRIVE UNIT 
    1. Remove the unit.
    2. Connect the battery positive (+) lead to terminal 3 and battery negative (-) terminal lead to terminal 9.
    3. Apply battery voltage to the terminals and check the motor operation.

      Standard: 

      MEASUREMENT CONDITION AND SPECIFIED CONDITION CHART

      Measurement Condition Specified Condition
      Battery positive (+) --> Terminal 7 Open
      Battery negative (-) --> Terminal 8
      Battery positive (+) --> Terminal 8 Close
      Battery negative (-) --> Terminal 7

    4. Check the resistance of the clutch terminals.

      Standard: 

      TESTER CONNECTION AND SPECIFIED CONDITION CHART

      Tester Connection Specified Condition
      3 - 9 4.0 Ω
    5. Reinstall the unit with the connector connected.
    6. Reference:

      Check the pulse of the pulse sensor.

      1. Using an oscilloscope, check the pulse generated when the door is manually opened and closed.

        Standard: 

        PULSE REFERENCE CHART

        Terminal 1 - 6, 5 - 6
        Tool setting 10 V/DIV., 10 ms/DIV.
        Vehicle condition Door moving

        HINT:

        A cycle of the pulse changes between approx. 10 to 20 msec. according to the speeds that the slide door is moving

    1. NG: REPLACE POWER BACK DOOR DRIVE UNIT 
    2. OK: Go to next step. 
  12. CHECK WIRE HARNESS (POWER BACK DOOR DRIVE UNIT - POWER BACK DOOR ECU) 
    1. Disconnect the P12 unit and P13 ECU connectors.

    3. Check the resistance of the wire harness side connectors.

      Standard: 

      TESTER CONNECTION AND SPECIFIED CONDITION CHART

      Tester Connection Specified Condition
      P12-2 - P13-26 (DSV) Below 1 Ω
      P12-6 - P13-23 (DSG) Below 1 Ω
      P12-1 - P13-25 (DS1) Below 1 Ω
      P12-5 - P13-24 (DS2) Below 1 Ω
    1. NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS AND CONNECTOR 
    2. OK: REPLACE POWER BACK DOOR ECU
