Instrument Panel Safety Pad Sub-ASSY: Replacement

1. TABLE OF BOLT, SCREW AND NUT 

   HINT:

   The bolts, screws and nuts, necessary for installation and removal of the instrument panel, are shown in Fig 1 with alphabet code.

2. PRECAUTION (See  AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS  ) 
3. DISCONNECT BATTERY NEGATIVE TERMINAL

   (MANUAL TILT: See AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS )

   (POWER TILT & TELESCOPIC: See OVERHAUL )

4. REMOVE SHIFT LEVER KNOB SUB-ASSY 
   1. Turn the shift lever knob counterclockwise and remove the shift lever knob sub-assy.

5. REMOVE CONSOLE PANEL UPPER FRONT 
   1. Disengage the 4 clips and remove the console panel upper front.

6. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL FINISH PANEL LOWER 
   1. Disengage the 2 clips and remove the instrument panel finish panel lower, then disconnect the connectors.

7. REMOVE RADIO RECEIVER ASSY (See  REPLACEMENT  ) 
8. REMOVE CENTER CLUSTER INTEGRATION SWITCH ASSY (W/O LEXUS NAVIGATION SYSTEM) (See  OVERHAUL  ) 
9. REMOVE MULTI-DISPLAY ASSY (W/ LEXUS NAVIGATION SYSTEM) (See  REPLACEMENT  ) 
10. REMOVE STEERING WHEEL COVER LOWER NO.2 
11. REMOVE STEERING WHEEL COVER LOWER NO.3 
12. REMOVE HORN BUTTON ASSY (See  AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS  ) 
13. REMOVE STEERING WHEEL ASSY 

    (MANUAL TILT: See  OVERHAUL  ) 

    (POWER TILT & TELESCOPIC: See  OVERHAUL  ) 

    SST 09950-50013 (09951-05010, 09952-05010, 09953-05020, 09954-05021)

14. REMOVE STEERING COLUMN COVER 

    (MANUAL TILT: See  OVERHAUL  ) 

    (POWER TILT & TELESCOPIC: See  OVERHAUL  ) 

15. REMOVE TILT & TELESCOPIC SWITCH (TILT & TELESCOPIC STEERING) (See  OVERHAUL  ) 
16. REMOVE SPIRAL CABLE SUB-ASSY (See  REMOVAL  ) 
17. REMOVE HEADLAMP DIMMER SWITCH ASSY (See  REPLACEMENT  ) 
18. REMOVE WINDSHIELD WIPER SWITCH ASSY (See  REPLACEMENT  ) 
19. REMOVE FRONT DOOR SCUFF PLATE LH (See  REPLACEMENT  ) 
20. REMOVE COWL SIDE TRIM SUB-ASSY LH 
21. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL FINISH PANEL SUB-ASSY LOWER 
    1. Remove the bolt < B > and the screw < D >.

    2. Disconnect the hood lock control cable assy.
    3. Disengage the 5 claws and remove the 4 clips and the instrument panel finish panel sub-assy lower.
    4. Disconnect the connectors.
22. REMOVE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER FINISH PANEL SUB-ASSY 
    1. Disengage the 4 clips and remove the instrument cluster finish panel sub-assy.

23. REMOVE COMBINATION METER ASSY 
    1. Remove the 4 screws < E >.
    2. Pull out the combination meter assy, then disconnect the connectors.

24. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL AIR BAG ASSY LOWER NO.1 (See  REMOVAL & INSTALLATION  ) 
25. REMOVE FRONT DOOR SCUFF PLATE RH (See  REPLACEMENT  ) 
26. REMOVE COWL SIDE TRIM SUB-ASSY RH 
27. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL UNDER COVER SUB-ASSY NO.2 
    1. Disengage the 3 claws, pull the instrument panel under cover sub-assy No.2 in the arrow direction, and remove it.

28. REMOVE GLOVE COMPARTMENT DOOR ASSY 
    1. Remove the 2 bolts < B > and the 2 screws, < D >.

    2. Pull the glove compartment door assy to the rear to remove it.
    3. Disconnect the connector.
29. REMOVE FLOOR CARPET COVER CENTER LH 
    1. Remove the 2 clips from the floor carpet cover center LH.

    2. Depress the edge of the floor carpet cover center LH around the claws to disengage the 2 claws below the floor carpet cover center LH.
    3. Slide the floor carpet cover center LH to the front of the vehicle, disengage the 2 claws from the instrument panel finish panel lower center at the floor carpet cover center LH.
    4. Remove the floor carpet cover center LH.
30. REMOVE FLOOR CARPET COVER CENTER RH 
31. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL FINISH PANEL LOWER CENTER 
    1. Remove the 7 screws < D >.
    2. Disengage the 2 clips and remove the instrument panel finish panel lower center.

32. REMOVE FRONT PILLAR GARNISH LH (See  REPLACEMENT  ) 
33. REMOVE FRONT PILLAR GARNISH RH (See  REPLACEMENT  ) 
34. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL FINISH PLATE 
35. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL REGISTER ASSY NO.1 
    1. Remove the screw < D > and nut < F >.

    2. Using a screwdriver, lever up the 2 claws on the body from inside of the register.
    3. Remove the instrument panel register assy No.1.
36. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL REGISTER ASSY LOWER NO.1 
    1. Using a screwdriver, lever up the 2 claws and on the body from inside of the register.
    2. Disengage the clip and remove the instrument panel register assy lower No.1.

37. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL SAFETY PAD SUB-ASSY W/PASSENGER AIR BAG ASSY 
    1. Remove the bolts and nuts as shown in Fig 14 .
    2. Disconnect each of the clamps and the connectors.
    3. Pull the instrument panel safety pad to the rear and check that none of the wire harness is stuck in the body.

38. REMOVE SPEAKER HOLE COVER NO.1 (W/ MARK LEVINSON SPEAKER SYSTEM) 
    1. Disengage the 4 clips and remove the speaker hole cover No.1.

39. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL SPEAKER PANEL SUB-ASSY NO.1 
    1. Disengage the 2 clips and remove the instrument panel speaker panel sub-assy No.1.

    1. Remove the 4 screws < D > and the defroster nozzle assy.

    1. Remove the 4 screws < D > and the heater to register duct No.1.

    1. Remove the screw < D > and the instrument panel bracket sub-assy center.

56. REMOVE GLOVE BOX LAMP ASSY

59. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL WIRE NO.2 
    1. Remove the 2 screws.
    2. Release the 18 clamps and remove the instrument panel wire No.2.

60. REMOVE AUTOMATIC LIGHT CONTROL SENSOR 
61. REMOVE DEFROSTER NOZZLE GARNISH NO.1 
62. REMOVE INSTR PNL PASS L/DOOR AIR BAG ASSY (See  AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS  ) 
63. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL SAFETY PAD SUB-ASSY 
64. INSTALL INSTR PNL PASS L/DOOR AIR BAG ASSY (See  AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS  ) 
65. INSTALL INSTRUMENT PANEL SAFETY PAD SUB-ASSY W/PASSENGER AIR BAG ASSY 
    1. Using a torque wrench, install the bolt < C >.

       Torque: 20 N.m (204 kgf.cm, 14 ft.lbf) 

    2. Install the instrument panel safety pad sub-assy with the bolts and nuts.

66. ADJUST SPIRAL CABLE SUB-ASSY (See  AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS  ) 
67. INSTALL STEERING WHEEL ASSY
