Occupant Classification Electronic Control Unit (Ecu) Initialization Procedure

NOTE: Occupant classification ECU must be initialized if occupant classification ECU is replaced, accessories (seat back tray, seat cover, etc.) are installed on vehicle, right front seat is removed from vehicle, AIR BAG warning light comes on or vehicle has been in accident or collision.

  1. Zero point calibration

    Adjust seat to initialization position. See OCCUPANT CLASSIFICATION ECU INITIALIZATION POSITION  table. Connect Lexus hand-held tester to Data Link Connector (DLC). Turn ignition switch to ON position. Perform zero point calibration by following prompts on tester screen. See tester operator"s manual for additional instructions. Go to step  2, Sensitivity check.
    NOTE: When performing sensitivity check, use a solid metal weight (check results may be inaccurate if weight made from liquid is used).
  2. Sensitivity check

    Place 66.14 lbs. (30 kg) solid metal weight on right front seat. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Perform sensitivity check by following prompts on tester screen. See tester operator"s manual for additional instructions.
