Description & Operation

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Lexus ES 300. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
WARNING: Vehicles are equipped with air bag supplemental restraint system. Before attempting any repairs involving steering column, instrument panel or related components, see AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS article in RESTRAINT SYSTEMS.

The Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) helps to prevent the tires from locking up, thereby ensuring vehicle performance and handling ability.

The Electronic Brake force Distribution (EBD) system distributes optimal breaking force to the front and rear tires in accordance with driving conditions. Braking force is distributed to the left and right wheels when braking during cornering, to ensure vehicle performance and superior braking power.

The ABS is equipped with self-diagnostic capability which allows technician to retrieve data stored in control module to aid in diagnosis.
