Inspection Procedure

NOTE: The following procedure is based on the premise that the horn blows normally whenever the horn switch is operated. If the horn operation is not normal when the horn switch is operated, check the horn switch. For 2001 vehicles, see HORN SWITCH under COMPONENT TESTS in STEERING COLUMN SWITCHES article. For 2002 vehicles, see HORN SWITCH under COMPONENT TESTS in STEERING COLUMN SWITCHES article.

Disconnect the theft deterrent ECU connectors located behind the instrument panel. See COMPONENT LOCATIONS . Measure the voltage. Connect the positive (+) lead to connector T7 terminal No. 12 (HORN) of the theft deterrent ECU connector and the negative (-) lead to body ground. See CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION . If the voltage is 10-14 volts, check and replace the theft deterrent ECU. If the voltage is not as specified, check and repair the harness and connector between the theft deterrent ECU and horn relay. For 2001 vehicles, see HORN in 2001 SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS article in ELECTRICAL. For 2002 vehicles, see HORN in 2002 SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS article in ELECTRICAL.
