Charcoal Canister Assembly (ES300)
- Visually check charcoal canister for cracks or damage. See Fig 1. Check charcoal canister operation by plugging vent port with cap. See Fig 2. While holding purge port closed, blow .26 psi (1.76 kPa) air into EVAP port ensure air flows from air drain port. While holding purge port and air drain port closed, blow .26 psi (1.76 kPa) air into EVAP port and ensure air does not flow from air inlet port. See Fig 3. Apply 1.01 in. Hg (3.43 kPa) vacuum to purge port. See Fig 4. Ensure vacuum does not decrease when air inlet port is closed, and check that vacuum decreases when air inlet port is released.
- While holding air inlet port closed, apply 1.01 in. Hg (3.43 kPa) to EVAP port and ensure vacuum air flows into purge port. See Fig 5. If vacuum air does not flow into purge port, replace charcoal canister. If air does flow, go to next step.
- Check VSV for pressure switching valve. Using ohmmeter, resistance between VSV pressure switching valve terminals should be 37-44 ohms at 68°F (20°C), or 51-62 ohms at 248°F (120°C). See Fig 6. If resistances are not to specification, replace VSV. If resistances are to specification, go to next step.
- Using ohmmeter, ensure there is no continuity between each terminal and VSV body. See Fig 7. If continuity is present, replace VSV. If continuity is not present, check that air does not flow between ports "E" to "F". See Fig 8. Apply battery voltage between VSV terminals. See Fig 9. Air should flow between terminals "E" to "F". If VSV does not operate as specified, replace VSV.
