Oil Pump: Inspection

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 9 other vehicles, including the 2000 Lexus SC 400, 2000 Lexus LS 400, 2000 Lexus GS 400, 1999 Lexus SC 400, and 1999 Lexus LS 400. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Inspect components for damage. Coat relief valve with engine oil. Ensure relief valve slides freely in valve bore. Install drive and driven rotors in oil pump body, with identification mark (triangle mark) facing oil pump cover.
  2. Using feeler gauge, measure driven rotor-to-oil pump body clearance. Replace rotor assembly or oil pump assembly if clearance exceeds specification. See OIL PUMP SPECIFICATIONS  table.
  3. Measure rotor tip clearance between tips of rotors. Replace rotor assembly if clearance exceeds specification. See OIL PUMP SPECIFICATIONS  table.
  4. Place straightedge across oil pump body, above both rotors. Measure rotor end clearance (side clearance) between straightedge and surface of each rotor. Replace rotor assembly or oil pump assembly if clearance exceeds specification. See OIL PUMP SPECIFICATIONS  table.
