2ND Start Switch
NOTE:
Pattern select switch includes 2nd start switch. When 2nd start switch is activated, transmission will start out in 2nd gear. If gear selector is in "D" position, transmission will shift up through 3rd gear to OD. If transmission is in 2nd gear, transmission is held in 2nd gear.
- Check 2nd start switch operation. Turn ignition on. Ensure 2nd STRT indicator light is on when switch is pushed to ON position. Ensure 2nd STRT indicator light is off when switch is pushed to OFF position. If indicator light operates as described, go to next step. If indicator light does not operate as described, inspect and repair wiring harness as necessary. If wiring harness is okay, replace indicator bulb.
- Disconnect pattern select switch connector. Using ohmmeter, ensure continuity exists between terminals No. 2 and 3 with switch in ON position. See Fig 1. No continuity should exist in OFF position.
- Access ECM by removing glove compartment. Disconnect appropriate ECM harness connector. Turn ignition on. Using a DVOM, measure voltage between ECM harness connector terminal SNWI and ground. See Figure or Figure . Voltage should be 7.5-14 volts with 2nd start switch in ON position. Voltage should be 1.5 volts or less with 2nd start switch in OFF position. Measure voltage between ECM harness connector terminal SNWL and ground. Voltage should be 7.5-14 volts with 2nd start switch in OFF position.
- If voltage is as specified, replace ECM and retest. If voltage is not as specified, inspect and repair circuits between battery and pattern select switch, or between pattern select switch and ECM. Inspect and repair circuits between battery and 2nd start indicator light, or between 2nd start indicator light and ECM. If circuits are okay, replace switch as necessary.
