Light Control Rheostat

  1. Remove instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Remove light control rheostat. Using jumper wires, connect battery positive to terminal No. 5 (Red/Blue wire), and ground terminal No. 1 (White/Black wire). Measure voltage between terminals No. 5 (Red/Blue wire) and No. 3 (Black wire). See Fig 1. Turn rheostat. Voltage reading should change.
  2. Using jumper wires, connect battery positive to terminals No. 5 (Red/Blue wire) and No. 7 (Green wire), and ground terminal No. 1 (White/Black wire). Measure voltage between terminals No. 2 (Black wire) and No. 7 (Green wire). Turn rheostat. Voltage reading should change.
  3. Check for continuity between terminals No. 6 (Black/Red wire) and No. 7 (Green wire). Rotate rheostat control wheel fully in each direction. Ensure continuity is not present when rheostat is turned fully in one direction, and then returns when rheostat is turned in opposite direction. Replace light control rheostat if continuity is not as specified.
