Relay Circuit

  1. Remove instrument panel safety pad below steering column. Turn ignition on. Continuity should exist between wiper relay connector terminal No. 14 and ground. See Fig 1. If continuity does not exist, trace and repair problem circuit.
  2. Measure voltage between ground and wiper relay connector terminal No. 1. Ensure ignition is on. Battery voltage should be present with washer switch in OFF position. No voltage should be present with washer switch in ON position. If voltage is not as specified, trace and repair problem circuit.
  3. Measure voltage between ground and wiper relay connector terminal No. 3. Battery voltage should be present with wiper switch in OFF, LOW or HIGH position. No voltage should be present with wiper switch in INT position. If voltage is not as specified, trace and repair problem circuit.

  4. Measure voltage between ground and wiper relay connector terminal No. 4. Battery voltage should be present with wiper switch in OFF, INT or LOW position. No voltage should be present with wiper switch in HIGH position. If voltage is not as specified, trace and repair problem circuit.
  5. Measure voltage between ground and wiper relay connector terminal No. 5. Battery voltage should be present with wiper switch in INT or LOW position. No voltage should be present with wiper switch in OFF or HIGH position. If voltage is not as specified, trace and repair problem circuit.
  6. Measure voltage between ground and wiper relay connector terminal No. 6. Battery voltage should be present with wiper switch in HIGH position. No voltage should be present with wiper switch in OFF, INT or LOW position. If voltage is not as specified, trace and repair problem circuit.
  7. Turn ignition off. Measure voltage between ground and wiper relay connector terminal No. 7. Battery voltage should be present with ignition switch in ON position. No voltage should be present with ignition switch in OFF or ACC position. If voltage is not as specified, trace and repair problem circuit.
  8. Measure voltage between ground and wiper relay connector terminal No. 8. Turn ignition on. Move wiper switch from OFF position to INT or LOW position. Voltage should change momentarily from zero to battery voltage. Move wiper switch from INT or LOW to HIGH position. Voltage should change momentarily from zero to battery voltage. If voltage is not as specified, trace and repair problem circuit.
  9. Measure voltage between ground and wiper relay connector terminal No. 9. Move wiper switch from HIGH position to INT or LOW position. Voltage should change momentarily from zero to battery voltage. Move wiper switch from INT or LOW position to OFF position. Voltage should change momentarily from zero to battery voltage. If voltage is not as specified, trace and repair problem circuit.
  10. Measure voltage between ground and wiper relay connector terminal No. 10. Battery voltage should be present with wiper switch in LOW position. No voltage should be present with wiper switch in OFF position. If voltage is not as specified, trace and repair problem circuit.
  11. Measure voltage between ground and wiper relay connector terminal No. 12. Battery voltage should be present with wiper switch in OFF or HIGH position. No voltage should be present with wiper switch in INT or LOW position. If voltage is not as specified, trace and repair problem circuit.
  12. Measure voltage between ground and wiper relay connector terminal No. 13. No voltage should be present. If voltage is present, trace and repair short to voltage in circuit.
