Anti-Lock Light Diagnostics

  1. Ensure battery voltage is 12 volts. Turn ignition on. ANTI-LOCK light should illuminate and then go out after 3 seconds. If warning light does not illuminate, check fuse, bulb and wiring harness.
  2. With ignition on, disconnect service connector. See Fig 1. Using a jumper wire, connect terminals Tc and E1 of Total Diagnostic Communication Link (TDCL) connector or check connector. See Figure or Figure.
  3. If a malfunction is detected, ANTI-LOCK light will begin to flash 2-digit code after 4 seconds. ANTI-LOCK light will flash first digit, followed by a 1.5-second pause and then second digit.
  4. Count number of flashes to obtain digits of 2-digit code. If 2 or more codes are stored, a 2.5-second pause will separate codes. See DIAGNOSTIC CODES table for code diagnosis. See appropriate chart under DIAGNOSTIC CHARTS.
  5. If ABS is functioning properly, 2 seconds will elapse, and then ANTI-LOCK light will blink once every .25 second.
  6. After replacing or repairing malfunctioning components, clear diagnostic codes. If battery cable was disconnected during repairs, all codes will be erased. If battery cable was not disconnected during repairs, see CLEARING CODES under DIAGNOSIS & TESTING.
