BLEED METHOD FOR TRACTION CONTROL SYSTEMS

Model Lexus LS400

SERVICE INFORMATION

A bleeder plug has been installed on the accumulator union bolt of the traction pump assembly for improved bleeding of the traction control system.

BLEEDING OF TRAC CONTROL SYSTEM (FOR TRAC)

  1. BLEED TRACTION CONTROL SYSTEM
CAUTION: When repairing the brake master cylinder or TRAC system,
  1. Connect a vinyl tube to the bleeder plug of the accumulator, then loosen the bleeder plug. See Fig 1

  2. Start the engine, then operate the accumulator until all the air has been bled out of the fluid.
  3. Tighten the bleeder plug and stop the engine.

TORQUE: 

110 kg-cm ( 8 ft-lb, 11 N-m)

CAUTION: Brake fluid is very damaging to painted surfaces. Protect all appropriate painted surfaces from possible brake fluid damage.
  1. Remove the air cleaner, then temporarily reinstall it so the engine can be started.
  2. Connect a vinyl tube to the bleeder plug of the TRAC actuator, then loosen the bleeder plug.
  3. Temporarily reinstall the air cleaner making sure all hoses and wires are connected prior to engine start up. If a hose or wire is left disconnected, an engine code will be set.
  4. Start the engine, then operate the TRAC pump motor until all the air has been bled out of the fluid.
  5. Tighten the bleeder plug and stop the engine.

TORQUE: 

110 kg-cm ( 8 ft-lb, 11 N-m )

  1. Check to see if any diagnostic code has been set which indicates trouble. If there is a code, analyze and correct the problem, and clear the memory.

2. CHECK FLUID LEVEL IN RESERVOIR TANK

Check the fluid level and add fluid if necessary.

FLUID: 

SAE J1703 or FMVSS NO. 116 DOT 3

HINT: 

Add fluid with engine idling.

DIAGNOSTIC CODE CLEARANCE (IF REQUIRED)

  1. Using SST (09843-18020), connect terminals Tc and E1 of TDCL or check connector.
  2. Clear the diagnostic codes stored in ECU by depressing the brake pedal 8 or more times within 3 seconds.
  3. Check that the TRAC indicator light shows the normal code.
  4. Remove the SST from the terminals of TDCL or check connector.
