Steering Column Shaft Boot Inspection
NOTE:

A customer may report an increased noise when turning the steering wheel and a notchy feel to the steering wheel, this could be caused by the steering column shaft boot rotating with the steering column shaft. Please follow the steps below to inspect the steering column shaft boot.
- Remove the trim panel.
- Position the main floor carpet to one side.
- Turn the steering column shaft in both directions and visually inspect the steering column shaft boot.
- If the steering column shaft boot does not rotate with the steering column shaft, Refer to: STEERING COLUMN .
- If the steering column shaft boot does rotate with the steering column shaft, continue to step 4.
- Measure are shown in illustration above.
- If the area shown in illustration is greater than 10 mm, continue to step 5.
- If the area shown in illustration is less than or equal to 10 mm, Refer to: STEERING COLUMN and continue with further diagnosis.
- Install a new steering column shaft and steering column shaft boot, Refer to: STEERING COLUMN SHAFT .
