Park Interlock And Neutral Lock
NEUTRAL lock is a requirement for the Transmission Control Switch (TCS). The TCS is always locked at Power Mode 6 (ignition ON) when the engine is not running.
When driving in SPORT, DRIVE or REVERSE at a speed of more than 5 km/h (3 mph), the driver selects PARK or NEUTRAL:
- Without the brake pedal pressed, the TCS immediately locks once the vehicle speed falls to below 5 km/h (3 mph).
- With the brake pedal pressed, the TCS remains unlocked for as long as the brake pedal remains pressed, regardless of vehicle speed.
The transmission only engages PARK once the vehicle speed is less than 2 km/h (1 mph).
The TCS locks 2 seconds after NEUTRAL is selected and the brake pedal is released with vehicle speed of less than 5 km/h (3 mph). The TCS remains locked until the driver presses the brake pedal again.
When the transmission receives a range change request without the brake pedal pressed, the Transmission Control Module (TCM) initiates a soft lock function. The transmission remains in PARK or NEUTRAL, depending on the starting position.
When a transmission position letter is flashing in the message center and the vehicle has no drive, the driver must:
- Press the brake pedal.
- Reselect NEUTRAL or PARK on the TCS.
- Select the required driving range, making sure that the brake pedal is pressed.
Rocking Function
The rocking function compliments the neutral lock function. For all changes from a non-driving range to a driving range, it is necessary to press the brake pedal to release the neutral lock.
For situations where the driver requires to change the gear selection from REVERSE to DRIVE, or from DRIVE to REVERSE, without brake pedal input. For example:
- Car park maneuvering.
- Multiple point turns.
- 'Rocking' the vehicle from a slippery surface.
The rocking function gives 2 seconds lock delay when NEUTRAL is selected on the Transmission Control Switch (TCS) and the brake pedal is not pressed.
On China market vehicles, the rocking function is not applicable.
Intermediate Position
If the Transmission Control Switch (TCS) is rotated slowly from PARK to SPORT and back to PARK with the brake pedal pressed:
- The REVERSE or DRIVE position display letter in the message center flashes.
- The transmission remains in PARK or NEUTRAL depending on the previous starting position of the TCS.
If the brake pedal is released when REVERSE or DRIVE is flashing in the message center and the TCS is rotated to REVERSE or DRIVE:
- The required range is not selected.
- The transmission remains in PARK or NEUTRAL depending on the previous starting position.
The feature is known as soft lock. If the driving range letter in the message center is flashing and the vehicle has no drive, the driver should reselect NEUTRAL or PARK. Then select the required driving range while the brake pedal remains pressed.
