Software Over The Air Update - Vehicles With: Telematics Control Module (TCU) (G2453113)
CAUTION:
SOFTWARE OVER THE AIR (SOTA) update must NOT be used when replacing an Infotainment Master Controller (IMC) or a Telematics Control Module (TCU). All configurations/updates when replacing an IMC
must be completed using Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) approved diagnostic equipment.
NOTE:
- The vehicle software version must be a minimum of 14.2. This can be checked by using the vehicle touchscreen and navigating to the Software Updates screen and scrolling down to 'Vehicle Software'. If no version number is displayed, press check for updates to refresh the display.
- The Infotainment software version must be a minimum of 'S20A_20.16.5-536345'. This can also be checked by using the vehicle touchscreen and navigating to the Software Updates screen.
- The ignition may time out after 10 minutes with the JLR approved battery support unit connected. Consider this when downloading and installing software updates and make sure to switch the ignition back on before a maximum of 30 seconds to resume the process.
- If a JLR00004 - Hand-Held Device is available, an application has been included on the tool to hold the ignition on for the duration of the process. This can be launched by connecting the JLR00004 - Hand-Held Device to the vehicle and following the on-screen instructions.
- If the process fails or an error message is displayed at any point in the process then a Technical Assistance (TA) must be raised. Select 'SOTA - Update Programming Concern' symptom tag and enter 'SOTA update error' in the 'Customer Concern/Comments' portion of the TA .
The TCU installation Preconditions are as follows;
- Vehicle battery State Of Charge (SOC) greater than 60%
- Vehicle battery ambient temperature greater than 10°.
- TCU Backup Battery Voltage greater than 3.5V.
- Emergency Call, Breakdown Call and Stolen Vehicle Tracking must not be active.
- TCU network connectivity must be available.
- Lock the vehicle.
- Access TOPIx and complete the following;
- Enter the vehicles Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) in the 'VIN Selection' box.
- Select the 'View all vehicle details' hyperlink in the top right corner of the home screen.
- Select the 'Vehicle Software' tab.
- Make sure there are two rows displayed, IMC and TCU .
- Make sure a 'SOTA slider' is available on the page.
- If the 'SOTA slider' is gray, touch it to turn it green.
- After pressing the slider unlock the vehicle.
- Connect a Jaguar Land Rover approved battery support unit
- Switch the vehicle ignition on.
- Determine the vehicle connectivity method to be used for the SOTA update. The update can be completed using either; an external WiFi connection, or a Subscriber Identification Module (SIM) card utilizing mobile data.
- When vehicle connectivity status is established, make sure the connectivity status is shown in the top left corner of the touchscreen (if using a SIM card a 3G/4G symbol will be displayed, if WiFi is being used a WiFi symbol will be displayed).
- Wait 50 seconds to allow the vehicle to connect to the server, and then using the vehicle touchscreen complete the following;
- Navigate to 'Settings' and then 'Software Updates'.
- Make sure Software Updates are enabled, if required; activate it by pressing the power symbol on the vehicle touchscreen.
- Beneath the Infotainment software version, Select 'Check for Update'. A message stating 'No update available' will be displayed, this is normal.
- Scroll down on the vehicle touchscreen to display the vehicle Software Version and the Vehicle Software Check for Updates button.
- If the vehicle connectivity cannot be established. For additional information, Refer to: SOFTWARE OVER THE AIR UPDATE (SOTA) - INTERNET CONNECTION .
- Select 'Check For Update'.
- At this point, no update will be available. This is normal.
- Switch the vehicle ignition off.
NOTE:
- In order to complete an IMC or a TCU SOTA update, the current installed version of both modules must be displayed in the vehicle software table.
- If the TOPIx vehicle software screen still does not show the current installed software for both modules, wait 30 seconds. Then proceed from step 5.
- Access TOPIx and complete the following;
- Return to the 'Vehicle Software' page. The page must now be refreshed by selecting the 'refresh this tab now' hyperlink.
- There should now be software information displayed in the 'Installed Software' Column for InControl© Touch Pro IMC
and TCU
.
- If an 'Update' button is shown in the 'Status' column, then press the 'Update' button.
- If 'Complete' is shown in the 'Status' column, the TCU is up to date and no further action is required.
- Switch the vehicle ignition on.
- Wait 50 seconds to allow the vehicle to connect to the server, then using the vehicle touchscreen complete the following;
- Navigate to 'Settings' and then 'Software Updates'.
- Scroll down on the vehicle touchscreen to see the vehicle software version and the Vehicle Software Check for Updates button.
- After 30 seconds a popup should appear on the touchscreen offering the latest Telematics Software. Select Download Now.
- When 'Download Now' is selected, the download will begin and a progress bar will be displayed
NOTE:
- If the Software Install popup is not displayed after 10 minutes, navigate to 'Settings', 'All Settings' and ' Software Update'. Scroll down on the vehicle touchscreen to display the Vehicle Software version, and press the Vehicle Software Check for Updates button. The Installation popup should now be displayed.
- When the Install popup is displayed, make sure the installation instructions are read and fully understood. The vehicle will be immobilized during installation.
- Make sure the engine is not running before pressing 'Install Now' on the vehicle touchscreen.
- After approximately 5 minutes, a popup will be displayed on the touchscreen with instructions on how to install the new Telematics software.
- Select Install Now on the touchscreen.
- Wait for 5 seconds and then switch the ignition off and lock the vehicle.
- The installation may take up to 30 minutes depending on the size of the installation, however most installations will take around 10 minutes.
- After 10 minutes, unlock the vehicle and switch the ignition on.
NOTE:
If a pop up does not appear stating that the new software has been installed, switch the ignition off and proceed from step 16.
- A pop up will be displayed instructing that an Installation is taking place, with a countdown to the touchscreen shutting down.
- Before the touchscreen shuts down a pop up should be displayed informing that the new software is installed.
- Make sure the vehicle starts.
- The update can be confirmed by checking the 'Vehicle Software' screen on TOPIx. The status column should now show 'Complete'.
