Engine Protection System (G1890669): Overview
The purpose of the fire suppression system is to extinguish fires in the engine compartment. It is an independent system with no interface with other vehicle systems.
The fire suppression system comprises:
- A manually operated fire suppression switch (GREEN switch) mounted in the floor console.
- A control module, panel and 9 volt battery power supply.
- A four-litre capacity, pressurized fire suppressant tank; the tank contains a fire suppressing gas in liquid form.
- A fire detection sensor cable mounted on the underside of the hood; the cable incorporates a temperature sensor.
- Four fire-suppression nozzles located in the engine compartment.
The fire suppression system will operate automatically if a fire is detected in the engine compartment. The system can also be activated manually by the vehicle's occupants.
Manual activation of the fire suppression system is through the 'GREEN' fire suppression switch mounted in the floor console. A transparent hinged cover is installed on the switch to prevent accidental operation.
The distribution system consists of a network of tubes which connect the fire suppressant tank to four spray nozzles in the engine compartment.
