Engine Protection System (G1890669): Description: Notes
The system is controlled by the fire suppression control module, which monitors the temperature sensor in the fire detection sensor cable, located on underside the vehicle's hood. Should the temperature in the engine compartment reach a trigger threshold due to a fire, the control module sends an initiation signal to the fire suppressant tank's firing head. Upon discharge the liquid stored in the fire suppressant tank turns into a gaseous state.
The tank outlet is connected to tubes which carry the gas to the fire suppressant nozzles strategically positioned in the engine compartment. The gas then engulfs the engine compartment to quickly eliminate the fire-threat as well as prevent re-ignition of the potential fire incident. The gas has the added bonus of leaving no residue and has no adverse effect on delicate electronic components.
The fire suppression system can also be activated manually by pressing the 'GREEN' fire suppression switch mounted in the floor console. When the switch is pressed it connects a ground to the fire suppression control module.
