Fire Detection Sensor Cable
The fire detection sensor cable is attached to the underside of the hood. The cable consists of two separate steel conductors, which are insulated from each other by a heat-sensitive polymer casing. The conductors are monitored by the fire suppression control module. If the temperature in the engine compartment reaches 180 °C (356 °F) the polymer casing melts, causing the conductors to contact each other and create a short circuit. Sensing this, the control module introduces the fire suppressing gas into the engine compartment through the fire suppression nozzles.
