DTC C102D-07: High Friction Inside Power Steering - Mechanical failures: Action

NOTE:
- Do not damage the boots on steering gear removal. Failure to follow this instruction may result in warranty becoming invalid for steering gear assembly
- If the DTC was set between medium and high time (medium to high mileage) in service it is most likely caused by impact or water ingress damage. The following issues are not covered under Warranty. Retailer/Authorized Repairers should not claim these issues. Refer to - Electric Power Steering Gear Damage Assessment Checklist - In portion 211-00 Diagnosis and Testing of the appropriate service information
- Guided Diagnostics must be followed and the repair advised by the process completed. Failure to do so may result in the rejection of any warranty claim made
- A. Accident damage
- 1. Bent Steering Gear
- 2. Bent Tie Rod
- 3. Damage to power steering control module housing and Power Motor
- B. Water damage
- 1. Rusty gears
- 2. Water ingress
- Refer to the DTC INDEX - PSCM Diagnosis and Testing . For additional information, Refer to: STEERING SYSTEM
- 1. Disconnect the steering gear from the suspension. Check the suspension system for freedom of movement and abnormally high friction. Rectify as necessary
- 2. If the fault persists, check the steering gear for abnormally high friction. Using the Jaguar Land Rover approved diagnostic equipment, check datalogger signal - Peak Measured Steering Friction Level (0x3011) and confirm that the value is above 0.400391 Nm. Check if the onset of the steering system fault symptoms occurred at the same time that the DTC was set. If the customer reports of heavy steering coincide with the logging of this DTC, then install new steering gear as required
- 3. Check the steering gear boots for damage. Install a new steering gear as necessary
