Headlamp Control Module (HCM)

CAUTION: Diagnosis by substitution from a donor vehicle is NOT  acceptable. Substitution of control modules does not guarantee confirmation of a fault, and may also cause additional faults in the vehicle being tested and/or the donor vehicle
NOTE:
  • Guided Diagnostics must be followed and the repair advised by the process completed. Failure to do so may result in the rejection of any warranty claim made.
  • If the control module or a component is suspect and the vehicle remains under manufacturer warranty, refer to the Warranty Policy and Procedures manual, or determine if any prior approval program is in operation, prior to the installation of a new module/component
  • Generic scan tools may not read the codes listed, or may read only 5-digit codes. Match the 5 digits from the scan tool to the first 5 digits of the 7-digit code listed to identify the fault (the last 2 digits give extra information read by the Jaguar Land Rover approved diagnostic equipment)
  • When performing voltage or resistance tests, always use a digital multimeter that has the resolution ability to view 3 decimal places. For example, on the 2 volts range can measure 1 mV or 2 K Ohm range can measure 1 Ohm. When testing resistance always take the resistance of the digital multimeter leads into account
  • Check and rectify basic faults before beginning diagnostic routines involving pinpoint tests
  • Inspect connectors for signs of water ingress, and pins for damage and/or corrosion
  • If diagnostic trouble codes are recorded and, after performing the pinpoint tests, a fault is not present, an intermittent concern may be the cause. Always check for loose connections and corroded terminals
  • Where an 'on demand self-test' is referred to, this can be accessed via the 'diagnostic trouble code monitor' tab on the Jaguar Land Rover approved diagnostic equipment
  • Check JLR claims submission system for open campaigns. Refer to the corresponding bulletins and SSMs which may be valid for the specific customer complaint and carry out the recommendations as required.

The DTC Index lists all diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) that could be logged in the headlamp control module, for additional diagnosis and testing information refer to the relevant diagnosis and testing service information. For additional information, Refer to: HEADLAMP LEVELING

  • Left headlamp assembly internal failure
  • Using the Jaguar Land Rover approved diagnostic equipment, clear the DTCs and retest. If the fault persists, install a new left headlamp assembly
B103D-49 Right Headlamp Control - Internal electronic failure
  • Right headlamp assembly internal failure
  • Using the Jaguar Land Rover approved diagnostic equipment, clear the DTCs and retest. If the fault persists, install a new right headlamp assembly
B1041-54 Leveling Control - Missing calibration
  • Headlamp leveling calibration routine has not been run successfully
NOTE: Sensor calibration routine must be carried out with the vehicle unladen and with correct tire pressures
  • Rectify any headlamp related DTCs first. Using the Jaguar Land Rover approved diagnostic equipment, run the diagnostic routine - Calibrate Leveling Sensors (0x200D)
B1087-31 LIN Bus "A" - No signal
  • LIN bus circuit short circuit to ground, open circuit high resistance
  • Refer to the electrical circuit diagrams and check the LIN bus circuit for short circuit to ground, short circuit to power, open circuit, high resistance. Repair circuits as required
  • Using the Jaguar Land Rover approved diagnostic equipment, clear the DTCs and retest
B1087-81 LIN Bus "A" - Invalid serial data received
  • LIN bus circuit short circuit to ground, open circuit high resistance
  • Refer to the electrical circuit diagrams and check the LIN bus circuit for short circuit to ground, short circuit to power, open circuit, high resistance. Repair circuits as required
  • Using the Jaguar Land Rover approved diagnostic equipment, clear the DTCs and retest
B10AE-01 Headlamp Leveling Motor - General electrical failure
  • Left headlamp leveling motor error
  • Using the Jaguar Land Rover approved diagnostic equipment, clear the DTCs and retest. If the fault persists, install a new headlamp control module
B10AE-4B Headlamp Leveling Motor - Over temperature
  • Headlamp leveling motor internal temperature above threshold
  • Check that the headlamp internal movement is not obstructed
  • Using the Jaguar Land Rover approved diagnostic equipment, clear the DTCs and retest. If the fault persists, install a new headlamp control module
B10F3-11 Left front position light - Circuit short to ground
  • Front left side lamp circuit short circuit to ground
  • Left headlamp assembly internal failure
  • Refer to the electrical circuit diagrams and check the front left side lamp circuit for short circuit to ground. Repair circuits as required
  • Using the Jaguar Land Rover approved diagnostic equipment, clear the DTCs and retest. If the fault persists, install a new left headlamp assembly
B10F3-12 Left front position light - Circuit short to battery
  • Front left side lamp circuit short circuit to power
  • Left headlamp assembly internal failure
  • Refer to the electrical circuit diagrams and check the front left side lamp circuit for short circuit to power. Repair circuits as required
  • Using the Jaguar Land Rover approved diagnostic equipment, clear the DTCs and retest. If the fault persists, install a new left headlamp assembly
B10F3-13 Left front position light - Circuit open
  • Front left side lamp circuit open circuit, high resistance
  • Left headlamp assembly internal failure
  • Refer to the electrical circuit diagrams and check the front left side lamp circuit for open circuit, high resistance. Repair circuits as required
  • Using the Jaguar Land Rover approved diagnostic equipment, clear the DTCs and retest. If the fault persists, install a new left headlamp assembly
B10F3-16 Left front position light - Circuit voltage below threshold
  • Front left side lamp circuit short circuit to ground, short circuit to power, open circuit, high resistance
  • Left headlamp assembly internal failure
  • Refer to the electrical circuit diagrams and check the front left side lamp circuit for short circuit to ground, short circuit to power, open circuit, high resistance. Repair circuits as required
  • Using the Jaguar Land Rover approved diagnostic equipment, clear the DTCs and retest. If the fault persists, install a new left headlamp assembly
B10F3-19 Left front position light - Circuit current above threshold
  • Front left side lamp circuit short circuit to ground, short circuit to power, open circuit, high resistance

  • Allow the system to cool. Using the Jaguar Land Rover approved diagnostic equipment, clear the DTCs and retest. If the fault persists, install a new left headlamp assembly
B10F4-11 Right front position light - Circuit short to ground
  • Front right side lamp circuit short circuit to ground
  • Right headlamp assembly internal failure
  • Refer to the electrical circuit diagrams and check the front right side lamp circuit for short circuit to ground. Repair circuits as required
  • Using the Jaguar Land Rover approved diagnostic equipment, clear the DTCs and retest. If the fault persists, install a new right headlamp assembly
B10F4-12 Right front position light - Circuit short to battery

B123A-11 Left Front Turn Indicator - Circuit short to ground
  • Front left turn signal indicator circuit short circuit to ground
  • Left headlamp assembly internal failure
  • Refer to the electrical circuit diagrams and check the front left turn signal indicator circuit for short circuit to ground. Repair circuits as required
  • Using the Jaguar Land Rover approved diagnostic equipment, clear the DTCs and retest. If the fault persists, install a new left headlamp assembly
B123A-12 Left Front Turn Indicator - Circuit short to battery
  • Front left turn signal indicator circuit short circuit to power

B12FE-11 Fan - Circuit short to ground
  • Fan control circuit short circuit to ground
  • Refer to the electrical circuit diagrams and check the fan control circuit for short circuit to ground. Repair circuits as required
  • Using the Jaguar Land Rover approved diagnostic equipment, clear the DTCs and retest. If the fault persists, install a new fan assembly
B12FE-12 Fan - Circuit short to battery
  • Fan control circuit short circuit to power
  • Refer to the electrical circuit diagrams and check the fan control circuit for short circuit to power. Repair circuits as required
  • Using the Jaguar Land Rover approved diagnostic equipment, clear the DTCs and retest. If the fault persists, install a new fan assembly
B12FE-13 Fan - Circuit open
  • Fan control circuit open circuit, high resistance
  • Refer to the electrical circuit diagrams and check the fan control circuit for open circuit, high resistance. Repair circuits as required
  • Using the Jaguar Land Rover approved diagnostic equipment, clear the DTCs and retest. If the fault persists, install a new fan assembly

  • Front left side marker lamp circuit short circuit to ground

  • Refer to the electrical circuit diagrams and check the headlamp temperature sensor circuit for short circuit to ground
  • Check internal harness connections
U210A-12 Temperature Sensor - Circuit short to battery
  • Headlamp temperature sensor circuit short circuit to power
  • Headlamp temperature sensor internal failure
  • Refer to the electrical circuit diagrams and check the headlamp temperature sensor circuit for short circuit to power

NOTE: After updating the car configuration file, set the ignition to on and wait 30 seconds before clearing the DTCs
  • Using the Jaguar Land Rover approved diagnostic equipment, check and up-date the car configuration file as necessary. Clear the DTCs and retest
U2301-88 Control Module Sub Network A - Bus off
  • SUB-CAN network communication error
  • SUB-CAN network circuit short circuit to ground, short circuit to power, open circuit, high resistance
  • Refer to the electrical circuit diagrams and check the power and ground connections to the module
  • Using the Jaguar Land Rover approved diagnostic equipment, complete a CAN network integrity test. Refer to the electrical circuit diagrams and check the SUB-CAN network
U3000-49 Control Module - Internal electronic failure
  • Headlamp assembly internal failure
  • Refer to the electrical circuit diagrams and check the power and ground circuits to the module. Check internal harness connections
  • Using the Jaguar Land Rover approved diagnostic equipment, clear the DTCs and retest. If the fault persists, install a new slave headlamp assembly
