ISSUE

The PATHFINDER service reset application fails to clear the service required message

On the vehicles listed above, when attempting to complete the PATHFINDER application 'Service Message Reset', the warning that follows may be presented.

"Oil Service Reset: Update Powertrain Control Module (PCM) software to enable Oil Service Reset function."

In this situation, the only option available to select will be 'Full Service Reset'.

Even if a PCM update is completed and the 'Service Message Reset' application restarted, the same warning (as above) may be presented despite the PCM software now being at the latest level.

Even if the 'Full Service Reset' option is selected from the 'Service Message Reset' application, it may then be noticed that the service message is not cleared from the vehicle message centre.

CAUSE

PATHFINDER is incorrectly identifying the PCM's software level.

This is causing the concerns that follow:

By completing the actions below, a manual patch will be installed on the machine. The manual patch will allow the 'Service Message Reset' application to correctly identify the latest PCM software level, and offer the correct service reset options.

IMPORTANT: The 'ACTION' instructions below, should ONLY be used when a concern has been experienced matching the detail in the 'ISSUE' statement.

Completing the 'ACTION' instructions may cause a failure if the manual patch is not required.

ACTION

This workaround will load a software file to the Jaguar Land Rover Approved Diagnostic Equipment using the Manual Patch Update process.

WARNING: DO NOT Restart the JLR Approved Diagnostic Equipment until the manual patch has been used as the manual patch is removed on restart of the JLR Approved Diagnostic Equipment.
  1. Restart the JLR Approved Diagnostic Equipment
  2. Select 'Manual Patch' Icon on the Application Launcher screen. Make sure that both Symptom Driven Diagnostics (SDD) and PATHFINDER are closed before opening the Manual Patch downloader.
  3. A pop-up will be displayed for Manual Patch downloader
  4. Enter 'MP_PF_L0033' in the Patch Name field.
  5. Select 'Start'.
  6. The Manual Patch downloader will then download the manual patch.
  7. When the patch download has completed, a message will be displayed, asking the user to confirm that the application can run the manual patch. Select 'Yes'.
  8. When complete, the following message will be displayed: 'Successfully downloaded and started manual patch. Please make sure that the patch has installed successfully.'
NOTE: This message will end after 10 seconds.
  9. Start a new diagnostic session.
  10. Complete the required 'Service Message Reset' application.
  11. Close the session.
  12. Restart the JLR Approved Diagnostic Equipment.
