SERVICE INFORMATION

Symptom 499000 Basic Engine

ISSUE

Reports have been received of engine damage occurring, which is caused by the use of non-approved engine induction/fuel injection cleaning equipment or materials. This includes, but is not limited to, "Vacu-flush" type equipment.

CAUSE

The use of non-approved equipment can cause the engines to hydro-lock, or cause other engine damage, and sometimes the only possible repair is to replace the engine.

ACTION

Any approved products have been fully tested by Land Rover engineering, and will be published through the standard communications such as; TOPIx, Special Service Messages, Technical Bulletins, or Special Tools.

For example, for V8 AJ133 engines refer to TOPIx section 303-04 (Fuel Injection Component Cleaning/Fuel Injection Component Cleaning Using Pressure Cleaner). For North America only also refer to LTB00409.

Damage caused by the use of non-approved equipment or cleaners may invalidate engine warranty coverage.
